 본 연구는 미얀마 냥쉐의 커뮤니티 기반의 산림경영 모델에서 지역민의 참여인식과 경제발전과의 관계를 규명하고자 수행되었다. 2017 년부터 암팟마을의 지역산림경영에 참여하고 있는 거주자 98 명을 대상으로 인식과 경제발전과의 관계를 현장 조사했고, 질적분석론에 근거한 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집했다. 사회경제적 현황조사는 설문조사지를 활용하여, 자연적 인프라, 사회적 자본, 인적자본, 물적자본, 금융자본 등 5 대 자본의 현황을 조사했고, 산림경영참여자의 생계현황과 요구사항, 사회경제적 현황 등은 개별 인터뷰를 통해 조사했다. 연구결과, 지역민의 대부분이 지역기반 산림경영모델을 통한 생활환경개선, 소득증대에 높은 관심을 나타내고 있으며, 산림경영에 기반한 소득증대 모델에 대한 충분한 이해와 인지를 나타냈다. 산림경영 계획 및 수행 단계에 높은 참여를 나타내는 산림경영 참여그룹과 비교할 때, 일반 지역민의 경우 모니터링 단계에서만 1/3 의 참여도를 나타냈다. 이는 소득수준과 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 산림경영 참여그룹은 마을 숲에 조림, 육림 등 다양한 산림사업에 노동자로 고용되면서 일자리 창출효과와 소득증대를 나타냈고, 전반적인 생활환경 개선효과가 규명되었다. 또한, 연료공급지원을 포함한 다양한 재정적 혜택을 받을 뿐만 아니라, 임산물에 합법적인 접근과 이용이 가능하여 지속가능한 경제발전 모델에 근접한 모습을 나타냈다. 본 연구를 통해, 지역기반 산림경영모델의 참여가 지역사회 경제발전의 중요한 영향요소로 작용하고 있음을 규명했다.
