As national debates on Kyungbu Canal and Kyungin Canal are recently issued, public interests in canal are increasing and the recreational function of canal attracts public attentions. This paper attempts to analyze the potential demand and willingness to pay (WTP) for the Han River-Canal-West Sea coastal cruise. The valuation principal is potential consumer's WTP, which is assessed by the use of the contingent valuation method (CVM) in this study. The author tried to conduct a CVM study following a number of guidelines presented in the literature. The randomly sampled 800 households of the Metropolitan areas (419 in Seoul, 102 in Incheon, and 279 Kyunggi) in the CV survey stated WTP values without great difficulties. The number of persons that will enjoy the coastal cruise are computed as 1.92 per household per annum. The aggregate annual value to the study area amounts to 16,717,603 persons. Moreover, the mean WTP estimate for enjoying the coastal cruise is estimated as 8,248 won per a person's trip. The annual benefit to the area amounts to 114.1 billion won.
