This study is conducted to determine characteristics ofbreeding lines of Tartary buckwheat aiming at high yield of seedand whole plant(herb), and high ratio of rutin content under the environmental conditions of Korea. Four lines(KW11, KW21, KW27, and KW31) of Tartary buckwheat were used as parental plants for the reciprocal crosses. Seed characteristics were investigated for ten F1 hybrid plants which were obtained from the crosses. Morphologicalcharacteristics, grain yield and rutin content of the parents and F2 plants were investigated and compared among the different breeding lines. T8 showed the highest seed yield(204.9kg/10a) and herb yield(1,644kg/10a). It had also relatively high content of rutin inseed(1,398mg/100g-summer, 2,000mg/100g-fall), leaf(2,199mg/100gsummer, 1,886mg/100g-fall), and stem(422mg/100g-summer, 996mg/100g-fall). Consequently, T8 was found to be the best line for developing new variety of Tartary buckwheat.
