본 연구는 일상생활 속 구체물 조작활동이 발달지체 유아의 수개념 발달에 미치는 효과를 검증하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 연구 대상은 대전과 천안시에 위치한 통합유치원 특수학급에 등원중인 만 3~6세 발달지체 유아 40명이었으며 이들을 실험집단과 통제집단 나누어 20명씩 무선 배치하였다. 실험도구인 구체물 조작활동 프로그램의 효과검증을 위한 측정도구는 선행 연구들을 기초로 유아특수교육 전문가 집단의 자문 및 논의를 통해 구성되었다. 실험집단에 속한 유아들을 대상으로 4주 동안 총 16회기에 걸쳐 구체물 조작활동이 진행되었으며, 실험집단과 통제집단 유아 모두에게 사전, 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 이에 따른 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 구체물 조작활동은 발달지체 유아의 전체 수개념 발달에 유의미한 효과가 있는 것으로 보고되었다. 둘째, 구체물 조작활동은 발달지체 유아의 수개념 하위 영역 중 분류, 측정 및 서열, 기수, 일대일 대응, 서수, 공간, 시간 능력 형성에 유의미한 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과 일상생활 속 구체물을 직접 탐색하고 조작해보는 활동은 발달지체 유아의 수개념 발달에 효과적이라는 것이 보고되었다. 따라서 발달지체 유아의 기초적 수개념 발달 뿐 아니라 수 연산, 조합, 숫자쓰기 등과 같은 보다 높은 단계에서의 수학적 개념 발달이 이루어질 수 있도록 이에 적합한 구체적 조작활동에 대한 후속연구가 실시되어야 함이 제언 되었다.The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of concrete materials operative activities in daily life on number concept formation of children with developmental delay. Participants for this study were 40 young children with developmental delay aged 3 to 6 selected from special schools in Daejeon and Chunan. The participants were randomly assigned into an experimental group and a control group. The concrete material operative program as an experiment tool and a measuring instrument were designed on the basis of literature review and discussion with a group of early childhood special education experts. The children in the experimental group participated in concrete materials’ operative activities for 4 weeks with 16 sessions. Pre and post test were carried out to both of the control and experimental groups. Collected data were analyzed with an independent and paired sample t-test. The results of this study are as follows. First, concrete materials operative activities had influence on overall number concept formation of the children with developmental delay. Second, concrete materials operative activities had an effect on improvement of number concept sub-domains(classification, measurement, rank, cardinal numbers, one-to-one correspondence, ordinal numbers, space sense and time sense) of children with developmental delay. In conclusion, to explore and operate concrete materials in daily life helps the children with developmental delay to improve their number concept. Therefore further studies should focus on the development of concrete materials operative activities suitable for higher mathematical function(calculation, number writing, combination) rather than number concept to improve the overall quality and effect of special mathematical education.
