본 논문은 라깡의 ‘의미화 대치’에 관한 메타포 공식에 주목한다. 한 기표가 다른 기표로 의미론적 대치 현상이 일어났을 때 어떤 ‘의미화 효과’가 발생하고 이 효과는 ‘시적이고 창조적’이라는 것이다. 이런 창조적 의미화 효과가 무의식의 형성 과정에서 나타날 뿐만 아니라 그것의 해석, 즉 분석 과정에도 나타난다. 후자의 경우 그것은 곧 치료의 효과로 연결된다.

정신분석은 <상징을 통한 실재에의 접근>이라고 정의된다. 그 자체로 ‘말할 수 없는 그 무엇’을 형성하는 실재를 말을 통해서 접근한다는 것이다. 왜냐하면 실재는 언어 속에서만, 언어를 통해서만 접근 가능하다는 것이 라깡의 명제이기 때문이다.

이런 논리가 가능한 것은 상징과 실재의 독특한 관계 때문이다. 실재는 상징화의 결과/효과로서 드러나지만 상징질서에 환원될 수 없고 동시에3 그것의 ‘밖’을 구성하지도 않는, 그 질서 <내>의 외-존재적 타자이다. 다시 말해서 상징-실재의 관계는 재현-‘비재현적 재현’의 관계이다.

‘의심의 해석학’의 일부로서의 정신분석적 글 읽기는 해체론적 글 읽기에 조응한다. 그것은 발화자를 발화의 내용, 즉 텍스트의 심연 구조 속으로 계속 밀어 넣는 행위이며, 표층 구조의 텍스트 논리를 ‘거슬러’ 심층 구조의 상호 텍스트를 발견하는 일, 즉 <거슬러 읽기>를 실천하는 것이다.

This essay is concerned with the Lacanian formula of metaphor, or 'signifying substitution': It involves the substitution of signifier for signifier that produces 'a signification effect,' which is 'poetic and creative.' This effect of signification leads both to the constitution of the subject and to the analytic cure as well.

The Lacanian dictum that a signifier is that which represents the subject for another signifier is closely related to another dictum: "Dialectize a master signifier." If the unary signifier S1 is brought into some relationship with the binary signifier S2, then its status as a master signifier freezing, subjugating the subject changes. This change makes the psychoanalytic process possible. That is, when a master signifier is dialectized, metaphorization occurs, the subject is precipitated, and the subject assumes a new position. This is what is meant by the 'signifying substitution.'Special attention is drawn to the way of paradox in which the real as the surplus-effect of symbolization is internal to the symbolic order, but is nevertheless irreducible to the system of representation. Topologically speaking, the real is simultaneously ‘inside’ the symbolic structure and ‘outside’ it as well. It is a kind of ‘excluded interior,’ or an ‘intimate exterior,’ if extrapolated from the Lacanian term ‘extimite.’This extraordinary relationship between the symbolic and the real makes possible the definition of psychoanalysis: It is a way of working on the real by means of the symbolic. The real, which is unsayable and unspeakable as such, can be approached only in and through language. This accounts for the way in which the analytic interpretation, which involves a restoration of the missing link between S1 and S2, hits the real.

Psychoanalysis, which is a branch of the hermeneutics of suspicion, attempts to read 'against the grain.' In this way, the psychoanalytic reading is similar to the deconstructive reading in which the textuality is governed by what Derrida calls 'differance' and the logic of supplementarity.
