>본 연구의 목적은 ‘주의력결핍 및 과잉행동장애’ (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD,)아동의 문제행동 원인을 그들과 일반아동들의 감각처리능력에 대한 차이로 설명하는데 있다. 연구대상은 부산지역의 만 5세에서 7세 일반아동 69명과 소아정신과에서 인지적 결함은 없으나 ADHD로 진단받은 동일연령대 아동 52명이다. 두 집단 아동들의 감각처리 능력을 비교하기 위한 검사도구로 McIntosh, Miller, Shyu와 Dunn(1999)의 SSP 단축프로파일 중 33문항을 사용하였다. 연구결과 일반아동들과 ADHD아동들 모두 감각처리능력에서 연령 및 성별에 따른 유의미한 차이를 보고하지 않았으나 ADHD아동들은 일반아동들 보다 전반적으로 감각처리에 어려움을 더 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 일반교육기간에 따른 ADHD아동들의 감각처리능력에서 유의미한 차이가 보고되었으며 교육기간은 ADHD아동들의 전체적 감각처리능력에 긍정적인 작용을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 약물치료경험에 따른 차이에서는 촉각민감성 부분에서만 유의미한 차이가 보고되었는데 결과에 의하면 약물치료를 받은 경험이 있는 ADHD아동들이 경험이 없는 ADHD아동들보다 촉각민감성에 대한 어려움이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 사용된 SSP 단축프로파일이 일반아동과 ADHD아동의 감각처리능력의 차이를 보고하였다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있으며, 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 ADHD의 다양한 원인을 밝히는 연구에 있어서 감각처리능력에 관한 후속 연구의 필요성을 제안하였다. <주제어> 감각처리능력, ADHD아동, SSP 단축프로파일

The purpose of this study was to see the differences on the Sensory Integration abilities between normal and ADHD children. 121 children aged from 5 to 7 years in Busan Area were participated; 52 children with ADHD and 62 normal children. To compare the Sensory Integration abilities between normal and ADHD children, Kim's SSP questionnaire(Kim, 2001) consisted with 38 items translated and transformed from McIntosh's SSP questionnaire(McIntosh, D. N., Miller, L. J., & Shyu, V, 1999) was adopted. The results of this study are as follows: First, ADHD children had more difficulties in the whole Sensory Integration than normal children. However, there was no significant sex and age differences in the Sensory Integration abilities. Second, ADHD children with the longer period of regular school education showed more developed ability in the whole Sensory Integration, activity level, and sound filtering. However, there was no significant difference in the Sensory Integration between ADHD children with and without medical treatment experience except for touch sensitivity; more sensitivity to touch within ADHD with medical treatment than those who had no medical treatment experience. This study makes a contribution to identifying the difference in the Sensory Integration between normal children without any physical and mental disorder and ADHD children. And the results of this study call for further study relevant to the Sensory Integration to find out more specific reasons of ADHD.
