본 연구는 노인의 건강상태에 따른 의료비 지출 금액이 운동을 통해 개인이 느끼는 주관 건강을 매개로 차이가 존재하는지 확인하는 것이 목적이다. 2014년 노인실태조사를 활용하여 만 65세 이상 10,451명 노인을 대상으로 회귀분석을 실시하여 노인의 만성질환상태에 따른 의료비 지출 금액이 운동과 주관적 건강이 영향이 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구결과는 첫째, 만성질환이 많을수록, 운동을 하지 않는 노인일수록, 주관적 건강이 낮을수록 의료비 지출액이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 만성질환 수가 적을수록, 운동을 하는 노인일수록 주관적 건강이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 만성질환이 적을수록 운동에 참여하고, 운동을 할수록 주관적 건강이 증진되어 의료비 지출액이 감소하였다. 즉, 운동이 만성질환과 의료비 간의 관계에 대해 주관적 건강을 거쳐 영향을 주고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 분석한 노인의 건강상태에 따른 의료비 지출금액, 운동, 주관적 건강과의 관계는 장기적인 노인 건강 증진을 위해 운동을 통한 건강증진행위와 주관적 건강을 높일 수 있는 심리교육이 함께 필요함을 시사하고 있다.
