본 연구에서는 『아키(秋)』3장의 전개를 통해 특징적으로 보여지는 세 사람의 주인공이 각각 변모한 모습으로 재회하는 과정에 드러난 ‘침묵의 공간’에 대해 주목하고 그러한 공간을 통해 변화되는 노부코의 심리에 대해 고찰하였다. 결국 아쿠타가와의 침묵이 주는 공간의 의미는, 현실이라는 존재로 투영되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 그것은 주인공 노부코의 결혼이 사랑을 양보한 문제가 아닌 그녀 자신의 가치문제를 안은 삶의 방식의 연출이라고 한다면 공간이 주는 의미는 노부코의 삶의 구조를 자포자기하게 만드는 현실적 상징성을 의미하는 것으로 상정되고 있는 것이라고 생각된다. 공간이 주는 침묵은 각자의 현실적 문제로서 구체적으로 묘사되고 있지는 않다. 하지만 관련 의식이 공간을 만들고 그 안을 흐르는 침묵의 시간을 통하여 독자들에게 의미전달이 되고 있어, 침묵의 공간을 통해 비춰지는 노부코의 심리변화 및 내적 갈등, 그리고 노부코의 심정변화는 『아키』로 이어지는 아쿠타가와의 문학적 모색이라고 할 것이다. 주인공 노부코의 쓸쓸함을 조용히 바라다보며 담담히 투영하고 있는 『아키』의 심리묘사는 공간이 주는 침묵을 통한 곧 아쿠타가와의 관념의 전달이라고 생각한다.

This study focus on ‘the space of silence’ which is shown by the three main characters’ reunification after their changes, and look deeply into NOBUKO’s thinking though that space. The meaning of Akutagawa’s space of silence is reflected in the existence of reality. The problem is not about the love that NOBUKO have given up on the marriage, to think that as the way she act her life, then space of silence means the realistic symbolism that makes the structure of life desperate. The silence of space is not specifically described as a problem of reality. However, related consciousness creates “the space” and through the streaming time of silence, readers can understand the true meaning of it. NOBUKO’s emotional change and internal conflicts shown from the space of silence continue on 〈AKI〉, which is literary pursuit of Akutagawa. By looking at the main character NOBUKO’s loneliness in silence reflected on 〈AKI〉, transfer Akutagawa’s idea. it is not about one story of one woman, but rather, it is about Nobuko’s image depictions of one person’s woman who is not one person. It can be concluded that the images of woman portrayed in Akutagawa’s work is like a riddle that has readers puzzled.
