본 연구는 김명철(2016)과 정용(2017)이 편찬한 『대중생활상식』 단행본 두 권과 북한이주여성 네 명을 심층면담하여 북한 사회에서 여성상이 어떠한지에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 일차적으로 단행본에 기술된 여성상이 어떠한지 살펴보고, 북한이주여성을 심층 인터뷰하여 북한 사회에서 여성상이 어떠한지 통합적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 북한의 여성상은 ‘콜라병 몸매의 외모’, ‘남편과의 관계에서 고개숙인 여성’, ‘간섭받는 여성의 생활윤리’ 세 가지 하위범주로 드러났다. 이 연구는 북한에서 발간된 『대중생활상식』 단행본에 제시된 내용을 해석하는 것에 덧붙여 북한이주여성을 직접 인터뷰하여 그 속에서 일어나고 있는 상식의 의미를 발굴해내고자 객관적인 분석을 시도하여 북한 사회에서 여성상이 지닌 특징을 해석하고 논의하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
