As the UN developed the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), the role of tourism in sustainable development has been focused. Many scholars have noted that the various problems of today’s tourism city(e.g. overtourism, gentrification and so on) could be solved by setting sustainable tourism goals that balance sustainable tourism strategies with equitable distribution of economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits to all stakeholders. In this situation, smart tourism city is regarded to advance sustainable tourism development and create shared value with Internet of Things(IoTs), Big data and Information Communication Technology(ICT). However, there is little attempt to clarify the roles of sustainable tourism and smart tourism city. Therefore, this study aims to discuss their roles based on the link between smart tourism cities and sustainable development goals. We expect that this study can contribute to setting the future direction of smart tourism city.
