본 연구는 한국의 원조가 수원국의 국제정치적 지지를 이끌어 내는지를 경험적으로 분석하였다. 이를 위해 2000년부터 2014년까지 사하라 이남 44개 아프리카 국가들이 한국으로부터 받은 연간 원조액과 연간 원조 증감액을 독립변수로 하고 한국과 44개 아프리카 국가들의 UN총회 투표에 기초한 이상점 지표의 일치정도를 종속변수로 하여 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과에 따르면, 한국의 원조액은 UN총회에서 한국과 사하라 이남 아프리카 국가의 투표 일치 정도에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 한국 원조의 증감액 변수는 한국과 수원국의 UN총회 투표 일치 정도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 한 발 더 나아가 한국의 원조 증감액이 UN총회에서 한국과 수원국의 투표 일치 정도에 미치는 영향은 원조 규모가 작은 국가일수록 유의미하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 향후 한국이 사하라 이남 아프리카 국가들에 대한 외교 관계 전략을 수립을 하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 보이며, 한국의 원조정책이 한국의 정치경제적 이익을 위한 수단으로 사용될 수 있음을 보여준다고 하겠다.
