색채이론과 관련하여 뉴턴(Newton)은 분광실험을 통해서 색채를 객관적(客觀的)으로 존재하는 실체로 파악하였다. 반면, 괴테(Gpethe)는 그것을 인식하는 인간의 태도에 의해 달라지는 주관적(主觀的) 실체로서의 의미로 접근하였다. 여기에서 중요한 것은 이들 모두 색채는 인간의 심리형성에 일정한 영향을 끼친다는 것을 강조하고 있다는 점이다. 색채가 인간의 심리에 미치는 효과를 제대로 이해하기 위해서는 색상‧명도‧채도, 그리고 배색 등을 고려한 ‘총체적 접근’(Gestalt)이 요구된다. 한편, 색채를 객관적 관점에서 볼 때, 색채에 대한 인간의 심리 및 태도는 일정한 일치성(一致性)을 갖는다. 그러나 주관적 관점으로 볼 때, 항상 일치성만을 갖는 것은 아니다. 상반성(相反性)을 갖기도 한다. 예컨대, 비록 동일한 색채환경일지라도 잠재적 성범죄자와 잠재적 피해자가 느끼는 감정은 전혀 다르다는 점이다. 이러한 점에서 색채가 인간심리에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 파악하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니다. 또 색채의 종류가 매우 다양하기 때문에 이의 특성을 하나하나 파악하는 것도 어려운 일이다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 한계를 인식하고, 색채 가운데 가장 기본이 되는 1차색(빨간색, 파란색, 노란색)과 무채색(희색, 회색, 검정색)을 중심으로, 그것이 인간의 심리에 미치는 긍정적‧부정적 특성을 개별적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 그리고 총체적인 관점에서 범죄영화 사례를 중심으로 1차색과 무채색의 색채적 특성이 인간의 공포‧두려움 형성에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고자 하였다.

In relation to color theory, Newton identified color as an objective entity through spectroscopic experiments. On the other hand, Goethe approached it as a subjective entity that is changed by the attitudes of human beings who recognize it. The important thing here is that all of them emphasize that color has a certain effect on human psychological formation. In order to understand the effect of color on human psychology, it is necessary to take a total approach(Gestalt) considering color, brightness, saturation, and color scheme. On the other hand, when we look at colors from an objective point of view, human psychology and attitude toward colors have a certain consistency, but from a subjective point of view, they do not always have a consistency. It may have a counter-reflective nature, for example, even in the same color environment, the feelings of potential sex offenders and potential victims are completely different. In this regard, it is not easy to understand how color affects human psychology. Also, it is difficult to grasp the characteristics of each color because the kinds of colors are very diverse. This study recognizes these limitations and aims to examine the positive and negative characteristics of the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and achromatic colors (white, gray, black) that are the most basic colors in the color.
