본 연구는 J. S. 바흐의 2부분형식에 대한 브로디의 “3-순환형식”을 바탕으로 하이든 교향곡의 미뉴에트 악장에 나타나는 다양한 순환2부분형식을 유형화 하였다. 바로크 시대 궁정 문화와 연결된 미뉴에트의 춤곡은 반복되는 2부분형식으로 고정되었고, 이는 고전시대의 교향곡 악장에서도 유지되었다. 하이든은 관습 안에서 새로움을 추구하였는데, 본 연구자들은 이것이 바흐 춤곡과 구분되는 선율적인 특징으로 발현되었음을 주장한다. 하이든 교향곡의 미뉴에트 악장은 바로크 시대의 전통에 따라 시작 선율이 세 차례 순환되는 ‘순환2부분-유형1’과 두 번째 단락에서 새로운 소재가 등장함으로써 새로움을 추구한 ‘순환2부분-유형2’로 구분된다. 각각의 형식은 두 번째 단락의 종지 및 경과구의 유무에 따라 a와 b의 또 다른 두개의 유형으로 분류되었고, 결과적으로 총 네 가지의 유형이 도출되었다. 본 연구는 하이든의 순환2부분형식을 이론적 측면에 국한하지 않고 바로크 시대의 2부분형식으로부터 그 흔적을 살펴보았다는 음악사적 성과와 함께 고전주의 시대의 다양한 순환2부분의 형식을 명확하게 구별할 수 있는 형식론의 교수법적 기준을 제공하였다는 점에서 중요한 의의를 갖는다.

Based on Brody’s “3-rotation form” for Bach’s binary dance suites, this study categorizes various rounded binary forms in the minuet movements of Haydn’s symphonies. During the Baroque period, the minuet was linked to the court culture and its music was typically identified as a binary form with two repeated sections. The formal traits were maintained in the minute movements of the classic symphony. Meanwhile, Haydn pursued novelty in his minuet movements, which was revealed as a new melodic characteristics that distinguished his music from Bach’s. The first, “Rounded binary-type 1,” follows the Baroque tradition by circulating the opening melody three times, while the second, “Rounded binary-type 2,” pursues novelty by introducing new materials in the second section. Each type is further classified into two subtypes (a and b) based on the cadence and transition of the second section. As a result, our study derives four types of rounded binary form in the classical period. Our research is not limited to the analysis of Haydn’s rounded binary forms, but also includes tracing the evolution of binary forms from the Baroque period. This contributes to both historical and theoretical achievements in academic research and musical form pedagogy.
