이 연구에서는 교양 교과목에서 활용할 수 있는 외국인 학부생의 융복합적 사고력 신장을 위한 사전 학습용 온라인 학습 콘텐츠의 설계 절차 및 실례를 제시하였다. 융복합적 사고력은 지식이나 정보의 내용적인 측면과 그것을 담고 있는 형태나 도구의 경계를 허물고, 거시적인 측면에서 문제를 파악하고 해결해 새로운 가치를 창출할 수 있는 사고 능력이다. 이는 외국인 학부생이 언어 학습자가 아닌 대학의 주요 구성원이자 세계 시민으로 나아가기 위해 반드시 필요한 능력이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 능력을 키울 수 있도록 본고에서는 플립드 러닝의 사전 학습에서 활용할 수 있는 스토리텔링형의 온라인 학습 콘텐츠를 개발하고자 하였다. 외국인 학부생의 특성을 고려하여 개발 원리를 수립한 후 7단계의 절차를 거쳐 콘텐츠를 완성하였으며 이를 실제 수업에 적용하였다. 이후 설문 조사를 통해 콘텐츠에 대한 학습자 인식을 알아보고 그 효과를 검증하였다. 그 결과, 외국인 학부생들은 온라인 학습 콘텐츠가 내용과 형식 면에서 적절하며, 주체적인 자가 학습을 돕는 유용한 도구이자 매개체라고 인식하고 있었다. 또한 콘텐츠를 통해 주제를 다층적으로 이해하며, 이를 문제해결과정에 활용하며 사고의 확장을 꾀할 수 있었다고 응답하였다. 이를 통해 온라인 학습 콘텐츠가 외국인 학부생의 융복합적 사고력 신장에 도움을 준다는 사실을 확인하였다.
