본 논문에서는 거창 지역에 세거한 파평 윤씨 가문의 충절 의식을 살펴보기 위한 목적에서 『瀯湖實記』를 바탕으로 하여 尹景男과 尹商擧의 생애와 활동 사항 및 이들에 대한 후대의 평가를 고찰해 보았다.

윤경남은 임진왜란이 일어나자 경남 거창에서 倡義하여 의병장 金沔의 幕下에서 활약하여 많은 전공을 세웠던 인물이며, 이때의 공로로 1605년 宣武原從勳에 책록되었다. 윤경남의 현손 윤상거는 1728년 戊申亂이 발발하자 거창 지역에서 창의하였고 의병장에 추대되어 활약하였던 인물이다.

『영호실기』는 윤경남의 주요 행적을 담고 있으며, 윤경남의 4세손 윤상거의 遺事가 부기된 형태로 전하는 자료이다. 『영호실기』에는 이들의 묘도문자 이외에 객관성을 담보하는 제현의 기록물, 그리고 국가적 차원에서 그 공로를 치하하고 관작을 내리는 것과 관련된 공문서 등이 함께 수록되어 있어서 파평 윤씨 일가의 충절 의식을 고찰하는 데 있어서 공과 사를 아우를 수 있는 좋은 자료로 기능하였다.

윤경남은 『대학』과 『중용』을 중시하였고 그 핵심적 가치인 ‘誠’을 강조하였는데, 이러한 ‘성’의 가치는 국난의 상황에서는 국가의 위기를 극복하기 위한 실천적 가치로 재생산되었고, 사환기에는 군주를 올바른 방향으로 인도하려는 ‘충’으로 적용되어 그의 생애 전체를 관통하였음을 알 수 있다. 또한 윤경남은 ‘體와 用을 두루 갖춘 인물’로 평가되었는데, 이는 ‘이론과 실제를 겸비한 지행합일의 군자’라는 의미와 일맥상통하며, 윤경남이 인생의 원칙이 되는 가치관을 확립한 학문적 바탕 위에 이를 국가의 위기 상황 속에서 ‘충’이라는 가치로 실현하였기에 받을 수 있었던 평가였다고 볼 수 있다. 윤경남의 현손인 윤상거는 가문에 대대로 이어진 충절의 가치를 계승한다는 의식이 누구보다도 강하였던 것으로 보이며, 그리하여 국가도 저버리지 않고 선조도 저버리지 않는 忠義를 완수하는 결과를 이루게 되었다.

In this paper, for the purpose of examining the consciousness of fidelity of the Papyeong Yoon family who resided in Geochang region, I examined the lives and activities of Yoon Gyeong-nam and Yoon Sang-geo and the later evaluations about them based on the 『Youngho Silgi』.

Yoon Gyeong-nam was a person who raised the righteous army in Geochang, Gyeongsangnam-do, when the Japanese Invasion of Korea broke out, and he was active under the righteous army commander Kim Myeon, and achieved many distinguished military service. For his contribution during this time, he was enshrined in the Order of Seonmuwonjonghun(宣武原從勳) in 1605. Yoon Gyeong-nam’s great-great-grandson, Yoon Sang-geo, was a person who raised the righteous army in Geochang area when the Musin Revolt(戊申亂) broke out in 1728, and he was appointed as the righteous army commander, and played an active role.

『Youngho Silgi』 contains the main activities of Yoon Gyeong-nam, and is a material in which the Yusa(遺事) of Yoon Sang-geo, the 4th generation descendant of Yoon Gyeong-nam, is added. In addition to their Myodomunja[墓道文字, Tomb Inscriptions], 『Yeongho Silgi』 includes records of various scholar that guarantee objectivity and official documents related to praising their merits and awarding them an office and titles at the national level, which serves as a good resource that could encompass the public and private affairs in considering the consciousness of fidelity of the Papyeong Yoon family.

Yoon Gyeong-nam placed great importance on the 『Daehak(大學)』 and 『Jungyong(中庸)』, and emphasized the core value, ‘Seong[誠, Sincerity]’. This value of ‘Seong[誠, Sincerity]’ was reproduced as a practical value to overcome the crisis of the nation in a situation of national danger, and it can be seen that it was applied as a ‘Chung[忠, Fidelity]’ to guide the monarch in the right direction during the his official life period, penetrating his entire life. In addition, Yoon Gyeong-nam was evaluated as ‘a person with both the thing[體] and its functions[用]’, which is in accordance with the meaning of ‘a man of unity in knowledge and action who combines theory and reality’. It can be said that it was an evaluation that could be received because Yoon Gyeong-nam actualized it as a value of ‘Chung[忠, Fidelity]’ in the face of a national crisis, on the academic basis of establishing values that become the principles of life. Yoon Sang-geo, the great-great-grandson of Yoon Gyeong-nam, seemed to have had a stronger consciousness than anyone else to inherit the values of fidelity that had been passed down from generation to generation in his family, and thus he achieved the result of fulfilling the fidelity of not abandoning the nation or ancestors.
