본회퍼가 중요하게 강조한 참회(Beichte)에 대한 이해를 살펴보았다. 우선 참회에 대한 간략한 역사 서술을 통해서 참회가 그리스도교 역사에서 결코 가볍게 취급할 수 없는 중요한 전통이라는 사실이 분명해졌다. 그리고 비록 역사적으로 참회에 대한 오해와 오용 그리고 실종되는 시기도 있었지만, 그것을 극복하고 새롭게 발견하려는 노력들이 현재까지 진행되고 있다는 사실도 확인했다. 그중에서 본회퍼가 중요한 자리를 차지하고 있음을 확인했다. 본회퍼는 참회의 중요성을 전체적으로 당시 독일교회를 힘 있게 하고 활성화시키는 일에 중요한 매개체가 될 수 있다는 전제 아래, ‘공유자산’, ‘열쇠의 권한과 훈계’ 그리고 ‘신적인 은혜 수단’으로 제시했다. 그리고 참회의 중요성이 갖는 실천적이면서 목회적인 의미로 그리스도인들로 하여금 죄로 인한 고독과 홀로 있음을 넘어 ‘공동체를 발견’하도록 돕고, 교만을 넘어 십자가를 체험하도록 안내하고, 예수와 함께 새 생명의 여정과 제자도의 길을 가도록 하며, 마지막으로 하나님의 은혜에 대한 분명한 확신을 제공한다는 점이라고 주장했다. 그리고 참회를 실행할 때 중요한 조언들과 피해야 할 위험성을 각각 제시했다.

그리고 본회퍼의 참회에 대한 이해가 ‘오늘 그리고 여기에서’, 즉 한국 교회에 주는 실천적이며 윤리적인 의미를 3가지로 제시했다: 첫째는 프라이버시와 개인정보보호에 대한 관심이 새로운 과제로 등장한 현 시대에도 형제와 자매 앞에서 진행하는 참회가 시효를 다한 역사적 유물이 아니라 서로에게 준 신적인 도움의 선물일 수 있는 가능성을 가진다는 것이다. 둘째는 본회퍼가 강조하는 참회의 실천은 실천적으로 목회적 돌봄에 기여할 수 있다는 것이다. 셋째는 본회퍼의 참회 실천은 윤리적으로 그리스도인들로 하여금 다른 사람에 대한 책임을 배울 수 있게 한다는 점이다. 마지막으로 이 연구를 통해 한국 교회의 현 상황에서 참회에 대한 이해와 경험의 부족으로 적극적인 실천이 쉽지 않다 하더라도, 참회가 가지는 중요성을 인식하고 수용하는 것은 유익하다고 주장했다.

We looked at the understanding of Beichte, which Bonhoeffer emphasized as important. First of all, through a brief historical description of Beichte, it becomes clear that Beichte is an important tradition that cannot be treated lightly in Christian history. And although there have been periods of misunderstanding, misuse, and disappearance of Beichte throughout history, we have also confirmed that efforts to overcome it and make new discoveries are ongoing to this day. Among them, it was confirmed that Bonhoeffer holds an important position. Bonhoeffer presented the importance of Beichte as a ‘Gemeingut,’ ‘Schlüsselgewalt and Ermahungen,’ and ‘Gnadenmittel,’ under the premise that it could be an important medium in strengthening and revitalizing the German church at the time. And the practical and pastoral meaning of the importance of Beichte helps Christians to 'discover community' beyond the loneliness and aloneness caused by sin, guides them to experience the cross beyond pride, and leads them on a journey of new life with Jesus. He argued that it encourages one to follow the path of discipleship and, finally, provides clear assurance of God's grace. In addition, important advice and dangers to avoid when practicing Beichte were presented.

In addition, Bonhoeffer’s understanding of Beichte presented three practical and ethical implications for the Korean church ‘today and here’. First, even in today's era where privacy and personal information protection have emerged as a new challenge, the Beichte performed in front of brothers and sisters has the possibility of being a gift of divine help to each other rather than an expired historical relic. Second, the practice of Beichte emphasized by Bonhoeffer can contribute to pastoral care in practice. Third, Bonhoeffer's practice of Beichte ethically enables Christians to learn responsibility for others.

Lastly, through this study, it was argued that although it is not easy to actively practice Beichte due to a lack of understanding and experience of Beichte in the current situation of the Korean church, it is beneficial to recognize and accept the importance of Beichte.
