이 연구는 국립현대미술관 청주관에 소장된 프랑스 현대 예술가 니키 드 생팔과 장 뒤뷔페의 작품을 매개로 두 작가가 예술에서 추구하는 이상과 이들 작가의 작품에 나타난 치유의 효과를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 니키 드 생팔은 누보레알리즘 운동에 참여하며 사회적 편견과 권위에 저항하는 예술을 창작했다. 이후 생팔은 ‘나나’ 연작에서 다양한 피부색과 다채로운 포즈, 밝고 화려한 색상으로 채색된 과장되게 풍만한 여성상을 통해 작가가 어린 시절 체험한 트라우마로부터의 치유를 추구하며, 강하고 굳건하며 생명을 창조하는 여성의 위대함을 제시하여 당시 사회의 위선과 부조리, 남성중심사회의 여성에 대한 편파적이고 차별적인 인식을 폭로하고 여성에 대한 새로운 사회적 인식을 제시하고자 한다. 장 뒤뷔페는 문명의 고정관념이나 규범에 얽매이지 않는 원시적 내면을 표출하는 표현들을 ‘아르 브뤼’라는 예술 경향으로 체계화한다. 뒤뷔페는 ‘아르 브뤼’의 일종인 비정형적인 선들과 면들의 연속된 형태로 구성된 작가 고유의 ‘우를루프’ 연작으로 날 것 그대로의 반문명적 예술 가치를 추구한다. 두 작가의 작품 세계는 예술을 통한 내적 갈등의 발로와 감정적 해소, 정서적 치유와 자아 발견의 가능성을 보여주며, 예술 표현에 사회 부조리에 대한 비판적 메시지를 전달한다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the ideals of two French artists, Niki de Saint-Palais and Jean Dubuffet, through their art and the healing effects of their work. Niki de Saint-Phalle created the art of shooting painting and participated in the Nouveau Realisme movement, creating art that resisted social prejudice and authority. Later, in her Nana series, Saint-Phalle creates exaggeratedly voluptuous female figures with different skin tones, in various poses, and painted in bright, colorful colors. Through her Nana series, Saint-Phalle seeks to heal from the trauma she experienced in her childhood and to expose and overcome the hypocrisy and injustice of society and the discrimination against women in a male-dominated society by presenting a strong, steadfast, and life-creating female figure. Jean Dubuffet systematized the artistic tendency of "art brut" as expressions of primitive inner life that are not bound by the stereotypes and norms of civilization. Dubuffet pursues a raw and anti-civilized artistic value with his "Hourloupe" series, which consists of a series of unstructured lines and planes, a type of "art brut". The work of both Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Dubuffet demonstrates the outlet for inner conflict, emotional release, emotional healing, and self-discovery through art, and they use artistic expression to deliver critical messages about social injustice.
