본 연구는 미국 교원양성기관의 교육실습 프로그램을 분석하고, 이를 토대로 2028년 전면 도입 예정인 ‘학교현장실습학기제’ 운영을 위한 시사점을 제공하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 미국 4개 대학의 교육실습 운영 사례를 선정하여 분석한 결과 이들 사례에는 주목할만한 특징이 있었다. 첫째는 표준화된 교육실습을 운영한다는 점, 둘째는 실습생에게 반성적 성찰 경험을 제공한다는 점, 셋째는 내실 있는 실습 운영을 지원하도록 현장 감독관을 배치한다는 점, 넷째는 협력적 관계에 기반한 실습이 이루어진다는 점이다.

이러한 분석 결과에 비추어 다음과 같은 시사점을 얻었다. 첫째, 한 학기 실습의 내용 및 방법을 구조화하고 체계화함으로써 실습생, 지도교사, 지도교수 등 실습에 참여한 구성원이 자신의 역할, 책임, 수행 기준 등을 명확히 인지할 수 있도록 지원할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 한 학기 실습을 고려하여 교원양성 교육과정을 개편함으로써 실습과 현장 간 연계를 제고할 필요하다. 셋째, 교원양성기관 내 실습학기 운영을 위한 전담 부서 및 인력을 확보하여 교육실습이 보다 내실 있게 운영될 수 있도록 지원해야 한다. 넷째, 교원양성기관과 실습협력학교 간 협력적 연계를 위하여 구성원 간 정례적 협의회 운영 등 지원 체제 마련이 필요하다.

This study examined the student teaching programs at four U.S. teacher education institutions to inform the full implementation of a school-based student teaching semester system set for 2028. Our analysis identified common features across these U.S. programs, including standardized student teaching, reflective experiences for students, the presence of on-site supervisors, and a foundation in collaborative relationships. Based on these observations, we propose several implications. Firstly, the content and methods of the student teaching need to be structured and systematized. Secondly, it is important to reorganize the teacher education curriculum to accommodate the student teaching. Thirdly, the appointment of dedicated staff to oversee the student teaching is crucial. Lastly, establishing a support framework for cooperative partnerships between teacher education institutions and student teaching partner schools is necessary.
