미국 복음주의 기독교인들 사이에 기후변화 담론을 둘러싼 이념적인 분열이 심하다. 분열이 심화된 여러 가지 요인들이 있는데, 정치적 성향과 이념적 기반은 그 중 대표적인 요인들로 손꼽을 수있다. 일부 학설에 따르면, 종말론적 세계관은 개인의 생태적 입장에 영향을 미치고 게다가 기후 회의론과 연관되어 있다. 이를배경으로, 본 논문은 복음주의 기독교 안에 존재하는 세 가지 대표적인 종말론적 입장을 생태신학적 관점으로 조명하고자 한다. 우선 현대 성경해석학에서 주목받고 있는 생태신학에 대해 간략히정의하고, 전천년주의, 후천년주의 그리고 무천년주의의 신학적 입장과 타당성을 논할 것이다. 더 나아가 각각의 종말론적 입장이창조세계에 대한 기독교인의 인식과 태도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 고찰해 보고자 한다.

The partisan divisions run deep in the climate change discourse among evangelicals in the United States. There are several factors which contribute to this tension such as the ideological orientations and political commitments which are possibly the greatest dividing factors. In addition, it has also been pointed out that eschatological world-views affect one’s take on ecology in general. Many climate activists perceive the end-time belief held by certain evangelicals as a major challenge which runs against climate advocacy. The aim of this article is to critically examine the three representative millennial beliefs held by evangelicals, namely; pre-millennialism, post-millennialism and amillennialism through eco-theological perspective, which is an emerging biblical hermeneutic in the era of climate change. The critique will primarily focus on the validity of each theological claims of millennial beliefs and consequently its attitude to the whole created order.
