오무라 마스오는 일본의 제1세대 한국근대문학 연구자, 번역가, 그리고 자료수집가였다. 식민지와 냉전으로 인해 한국근대문학 자료는 북한, 한국, 중국, 일본에 산재하였다. 오무라는 연구와 번역에 앞서 자료를 수집해야 했다. 오무라는 재일조선인의 서재, 북한의 출판물, 일본의 도서관을 통해서 한국근대문학 자료 수집을 시작한다. 한일기본조약 체결 이후 그는 김윤식, 임종국 등 한국의 연구자들과 함께 자료를 발굴하고 공유하며, 서로의 연구를 검토하고 번역하였다. 오무라의 아카이브와 번역, 그리고 연구는 한국근대문학 연구의 본원적 축적에 기여하였다. 또한 오무라는 일본, 한국, 중국 등 여러 나라의 도서관을 통해 다양한 자료를 수집하였고, 그것을 목록집, 자료집, 문학 지도 등으로 공간하였다. 오무라는 자신이 정리한 자료를 널리 공유하여 연구자들이 자유롭게 활용하도록 하여, 다양한 번역과 연구의 시각의 경합과 풍요로운 지식의 생산을 지향하였다. 오무라 마스오의 아카이브는 한국근대문학 연구의 토대가 형성되는 과정을 보여주는 동시에, 지식의 ‘열린 공공성’을 지향하는 연구의 태도를 시사한다.
