계산공주는 백제 말 의자왕의 왕녀로 뛰어난 미인이었다. 이 왕녀는 어려서부터 검법을 좋아하여 높은 수준에 이르렀다. 특히 남해의 여도사로부터 신술을 배워 능통하였을 뿐만 아니라 자용병기(自勇兵器)라는 무기를 만들어 스스로 천하무적이라 하였다. 이 무기를 사용할 때에는 공중을 향해 주문을 외우면, 갑자기 많은 군사가 나타나는 신비한 현상이 일어났다. 전승된 백제공주 관련 설화는 삼국시대의 여타 공주 설화에 비해 특이한 요소들을 가지고 있다.

계산공주는 독립심을 가지고 여러 활동을 하며 삶에 대해 적극성을 띠고 있다. 고대의 사회에서 여성은 자신이 지닌 능력과 의지를 나타내기에 어려움을 극복하기 어려운 폐쇄적 상황이었다. 백제 역사 전체에서 유일하게 백제 공주 이름이 구체적으로 전해지는 계산공주 설화는 여성이 남성에 비해 열등하고 수동적이면서 의존적 존재라는 기존 여성에 관한 고정관념이나 사회적 금기 등을 깨고 여성 자신이 노력하여 실력을 갖추고 고난을 극복하며 새로운 시대를 개척해 나가는 주체적 여성의 형상을 제시하고 있다.

아울러 계산공주는 불우한 상황에서 불구하고, 적극적인 삶의 의지를 지니고, 국가의 위기를 극복하기 위해 주도하였다. 아울러 삶에 대한 열망을 성실히 보여주고 있다. 이를 통해 여성이 가진 새로운 역할의 의미를 모색하게 한다. 백제 사회에서 평등을 실현하며, 삶에 대한 적극적 모색과 더불어 다른 세계와의 화합을 표현하였지만 좌절되었다. 다만 그 속에 의지를 지닌 여성의 모습과 여성이 중심을 이루는 문화적 단면을 분명하게 형상화하고 있다.

Princess Gyesan was the royal daughter of King Uija of the end of Baekje and was an outstanding beauty. This royal woman loved swordsmanship from an early age and reached a high level. In particular, she not only learned magic from a female monk in the South Sea and was fluent, but also made a weapon called a 勇兵 weapon, saying that she was invincible. When using this weapon, a mysterious phenomenon occurred in which many soldiers suddenly appeared when a spell was shouted into the air. The handed down folktales related to Baekje princesses have unusual elements compared to other folktales of the Three Kingdoms period.

Princess Gyesan is independent and active in her life. In ancient society, it was difficult for women to overcome their difficulties in expressing their abilities and will. The story of Princess Gyesan, the only specific delivery of the name of the Baekje princess throughout Baekje's history, presents the image of a subjective woman who breaks down stereotypes and social taboos about existing women that women are inferior to men, are passive and dependent, and work hard to become competent, overcome hardships, and pioneer a new era.

In addition, despite unfavorable circumstances, Princess Gyesan had an active will to live and led the country to overcome the crisis. In addition, it faithfully shows the desire for life. Through this, it allows women to seek the meaning of a new role. In Baekje society, equality was realized and fusion was expressed along with an active will for life, but it was frustrated. However, it clearly embodies the appearance of a woman with her will and a section of the cultural phenomenon centered on her.
