본 고에서는 외즈다마의 1990년 산문집 『엄마혀』에 수록된 ｢엄마혀｣와 ｢할아버지혀｣에서 ‘상호이익 교류’ 가능성과 그 실천 요소를 탐색한다. 이 두 작품은 서로 유기적으로 연결된 이야기를 통해 언어와 문화의 경계를 넘은 이민자들이 다문화 사회에 진입하면서 보편적으로 경험하는 현실적인 문제와 실존적 경험을 다룬다. 또한 작품에서 문화 간의 대화가 상호이익이 되는 교류로 나아가는 과정을 보여주며, 이는 다문화 사회의 갈등 해결과 통합의 문을 여는 중요한 열쇠가 될 수 있다. 이러한 상호이익 교류로 나아가는 과정을 좀 더 효과적이고 명료하게 고찰하기 위해 교류분석 이론 중 특히, 주인공과 주요 등장인물들의 자아상태, 교류패턴, 실존적 태도를 중심으로 분석한다. 외즈다마의 작품 속 주인공이 새로운 정체성과 자율성을 획득해 나가는 실존적 태도의 변화과정과 독일 소녀 와의 교류에서 보여준 ‘자기긍정-타인긍정’의 태도 및 ‘상보교류’로 나눈 짧지만 많은 의미를 담고 있는 풍성한 ‘상호이익 교류’가 다문화 사회 통합을 위한 가능성을 제시한다.

This paper explores the possibility of a mutually enriching exchange in the works “Mother Tongue (Mutterzunge)” and “Grandfather Tongue (Großvaterzunge)”, published in Emine S. Özdamar’s 1990 collection of essays, Mother Tongue. In the organically connected narratives, both works address the real problems and existential experiences that immigrants universally experience when they enter into a multicultural society and cross the boundaries of language and culture. Furthermore, the works demonstrate a process in which cultural dialogue becomes a mutually enriching exchange that can be an important key to help resolve conflicts and integrate into a multicultural society. In order to better and more clearly analyze this process of mutually enriching exchange, the theory of Transactional Analysis is used to analyze the ‘Ego State,’ ‘Transactional Pattern’ and ‘Existential Positions’ of the main and secondary characters.

The process of change in the ‘Existential Positions’ of the protagonist in Özdamar’s work, who acquires autonomy, and the ‘I’m OK-You’re OK’ attitude in his interaction with a German girl, as well as the mutually enriching exchange that is briefly but intensively maintained in the ‘Complementary Transaction’, point to the possibility of a hope for integration into a multicultural society.
