This paper aims to reveal how people in the ShiJing period chose their cities and personal residences based on certain criteria through Shijing, as well as their activities and way of life. To achieve this, the paper divides the selection of living places into two categories: the selection of cities and the selection of personal residences. These categories are further analyzed in three aspects: the physiological benefits of natural geography, enjoyment, and emotional selection.
Consequently, the choice of towns and residences revolved around production and exchange during the ShiJing period. People preferred places where they could pursue and appreciate natural scenery, as also escaping from political and social oppression and extortion. Furthermore, the choice of residences evolved to incorporate aesthetic, political, and social perspectives alongside practical considerations. This resulted in a desire for material abundance, emotional pleasure, and beauty, ultimately seeking a life free from political and social restraints and oppression.
In summary, the research indicates that changes gradually emerged, starting from survival practicality, moving towards aesthetic enjoyment, and encompassing political and social choices.권호기사
