≪Mingyulin (明語林)≫ is a shishuoti (世說體) novel compiled by Wu Sugong (吳肅公, 1626∼1699), adherents of the former dynasty (明末淸初 遺民) in 1681. More than 900 articles a re included in ≪Mingyulin (明語林)≫ by classifying more than 930 people from the late Yuan Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty into 38 items. ≪Mingyulin (明語林)≫ makes readers understand people in the Ming Dynasty from various angles because many anecdotes of different types of people are included in it. Among the 38 items of the ≪Mingyulin (明語林)≫, particularly three parts of ＜Wenxue(文學)＞,＜Qixian(企羨)＞,＜Shijian(識鑒)＞are relatively frequently mentioned in relation to famous writers.
The interpretation of ＜Shijian (識鑒)＞ will be arranged two times and the thesis is applicable to the front part.
‘Shijian (識鑒)’ indicates the ability to recognize other people’s dignity and talent. In ＜Shijian (識鑒)＞’s Part, Wu Sugong generally identifies the people by classifying them into three types. First, it’s the type to describe people’s future or talent through their physique or appearance. Second, it’s the type to describe their future achievement or results through their words or behaviors of the past. Third, it’s descriptions of men of insight into mundane matters. This type usually shows that the applicable persons have insight into the rise and fall of the nation or mundane matters.
There are the contents that Guo Zixing (郭子興), Liu Qi (劉基), Wang Yi (王彞), Yang Rong (楊榮), and Liu Daxia (劉大夏) evaluated Zhu Yuanzhang (朱元璋), Han Lin’er (韓林兒), Yang Weizhen (楊維楨), and Mao Lun (毛倫) in the first half of ＜Shijian (識鑒)＞’s Part examined in the thesis. Compiler Wu Sugong’s views as a historian of migrants (遺民) in the Ming Dynasty melt in the evaluation of people in ＜Shijian (識鑒)＞’s Part. The thesis expects that this interpretation work will contribute to better understanding the different types of people in the Ming Dynasty.권호기사
