본 연구의 목적은 성인 발달장애인을 대상으로 연극놀이 프로그램을 적용하여 성인 발달장애인의 자기표현, 자아개념, 자기효능감, 사회적 기술 향상에 긍정적인 효과가 있는지를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 광주광역시 G구 소재 장애인복지시설의 중증 지적장애인 10명을 대상으로 2023년 9월 23일부터 10월 22일까지 총 5주(12회)에 거쳐 프로그램을 실시하고 자기표현, 긍정적 자아개념, 자기효능감, 사회적 기술 척도에 대해 사전·사후 검사 분석 및 참여 관찰일지, 강사의 교수학습지도안 등 질적 자료도 함께 수집하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 연극놀이 프로그램을 통해 성인 발달장애인의 자기표현, 긍정적 자아개념 형성, 자기효능감, 사회적 기술 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 도출된 본 연구의 시사점은 첫째, 성인 발달장애인을 대상으로 자기표현, 자아개념, 자기효능감과, 사회적 기술을 향상시키기 위해 개발되는 연극놀이 프로그램은 교수자의 전문성이 무엇보다 중요하게 요구된다. 둘째, 연극놀이 프로그램이 실제적으로 성인 발달장애인에게 도움이 될 수 있도록 연극놀이를 활용한 다양한 교수학습 지도안이 연구되어야 한다. 셋째, 성인 발달장애인 대상 연극놀이 프로그램 활성화 방안이 마련되어야 한다는 것이다. 이를 통해 장애인들이 긍정적으로 삶을 인식하고 자신이 주체가 되어 지역사회 안에서 사회 구성원으로서의 역할을 할 수 있도록 지원하는데 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
