This study conducted a survey through an online community to analyze the relationship between NCS (National Competency Standards) cosmetics competency unit, field usability, necessity of the cosmetics subject, and cosmetics subject satisfaction across different beauty occupations. The study included 306 beauticians who had received cosmetics-related education. The results showed that skin and makeup professions were aware of NCS cosmetics competency unit more so than those in hair and nail occupations. Additionally, the necessity of cosmetics subject was recognized as higher than cosmetics subject satisfaction across all professionals. Among the sub-factors of NCS cosmetics competency unit awareness, body care cosmetics, cosmetics classification, and basic cosmetics had a positive (+) impact on field utility while basic cosmetics and body care cosmetics had a positive (+) impact on field relevance. Field relevance and field utility, in that order, had a positive (+) impact on necessity of the cosmetics subject, while field utility and field relevance, in that order, had a positive (+) impact on satisfaction of the cosmetics subject. In conclusion, although cosmetics subject necessity was high across all occupations, cosmetics subject satisfaction was low. It is suggested that the NCS cosmetics competency units should be supplemented and restructured according to the specific needs of each beauty profession, and cosmetics-related subjects should be strengthened thusly.
