This study discusses the feminine language in Uchida Roan's current affairs and criticism novel 『社會百面相』.

The analysis applied sociolinguistic research methods that had been neglected by previous studies in the study of women's languages.

As a result of the analysis, it was possible to identify the characteristics of the female use of final particles (「わ」「よ」「てよ・だわ」) and the interjection (「あら」「おや」「おやッ」「まあ」「なあに」) represented by definitional expressions.

In addition, I was able to identify the trends and characteristics of female use of the first-person pronouns 「わたくし」「わたし」「あたし」, and the second-person pronouns 「あなた」「あんた」「おまへさん」. In this study, I examined the relationship between women's use of sentence endings and social stratification.

In particular, it can be considered that emotional expressions such as final particles and interjections worked as as absolutely feminine words.

This is what Uchida Roan, who sought to reflect the new gender norms in the novels of the time, appropriately expressed them in his work.
