문화적 상징은 영원한 사실을 표현하기 위하여 사용한 것이다. 본 연구는 종교적 의미로서 ‘경계(境界)’를 무궁화 차의 상징적 의미에서 살펴본 것이다. 무궁화는 꽃, 줄기, 뿌리 모두 차로 음용할 수 있어서 일반 꽃차보다 사용범위가 넓다. 그러나 무궁화의 뛰어난 효능이 밝혀져 있음에도 불구하고 무궁화차는 아직 대중화 되지 못했다. 반면 무궁화는 나라꽃으로서의 상징성과 더불어 우리 민족성을 상징하는 것으로 무궁화를 차로 음용하는 것은 대중화되기 충분한 요건이다. 여기서는 무궁화 울타리에 종교적 의미로서 ‘경계’의 상징성을 제기하고, 차의 상징과 더불어 무궁화차의 상징성을 모색하였다. 특히 종교적 경계의 의미는 외재적 대상의 인식을 말하는 것으로, 경계를 인식한다는 것은 곧 대상을 인식하는 것과 같다. 즉 ‘있는 그대로의 대상’을 올바로 인식해야 한다. 또한 무궁화 울타리가 갖는 경계의 상징적 의미는 울타리를 통해 성속(聖俗)의 구분을 엄격히 해야 한다는 점에 있다.

Cultural symbols are used to express eternal facts. This study investigates the "boundary" in religious sense with the symbolic significance of Mugunghwa tea. Mugunghwa's flowers, stems, and roots can be consumed as tea, so it is used more widely than ordinary flower tea. However, Mugunghwa tea has not yet become popular despite its excellent efficacy. Mugunghwa symbolizes the national flower and the national character of Korea, so drinking Mugunghwa as tea is a necessary condition for full popularization. Here, the symbolism of "boundary" is presented as a religious significance on the Mugunghwa fence, and the symbolism of tea and Mugunghwa tea are explored. In particular, the significance of religious boundaries lies in the understanding of external objects, and the understanding of boundaries is equivalent to knowing objects. That is to say, to know the "true object" correctly. In addition, the symbolic significance of the Mugunghwa fence is to strictly distinguish sacred customs through the fence.
