In this article I explore the relevant actors’ interests, expectations, challenges, and benefits in the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). I analyze the geopolitics and geoeconomics of the INSTC, i.e., the way the different regional states, as well as regional and great powers, attempt to drive their strategic aims through it, and ultimately, whether the corridor connects or competes with China’s BRI. The article looks to answer how the geopolitical and geoeconomic interests of the INSTC participant countries compete or coincide regarding the corridor and discuss specific areas where the corridor is affected by these competing or coinciding interests. And finally, the article looks to determine whether the INSTC rivals or cooperates with the BRI.
