천연 실리카 고순도화 기술 및 공정개발 연구

IV. 연구개발결과
1. 국내외 실리카 광물에 혼입된 불순물의 특성 조사 및 분석
- 국내산 규석광에 함유된 주된 불순광물은 각섬석류 (hornblende), 장석류 (feldspar), 방해석 (calcite), 흑운모 (biotite) 및 백운모 (muscovite) 등으로 관찰되었다.
- 북한산 규석광은 운모류, 각섬석류와 녹렴석 (epidote)등의 불순물이 관찰되었다.
- 중국산 규석광에는 방해석과 철 산화물 (Fe oxide)등의 함유가 확인 되었다.
- 인도산 규석광에는 각섬석류 등의 불순광물이 함유되는 특성을 나타내었다.
- 베트남산 규사광에 함유된 불순광물은 전기석 (Tourmaline), 티탄철석 (Limenite), 금홍석 (Rutile), 예추석 (Anatase), 녹염석 (Epidote), 조장석 (Albite), 저어콘 (Zircon), 장석 (Feldspar), 각섬석 (Hornblende), 석류석 (Garnet) 등임이 확인 되었다.
2. 국내외 실리카 광물의 물리적 정제특성 연구
- 원료광물에 함유된 불순광물의 특성분석결과를 활용하여 종합적인 정제공정을 채택하였다.
- 채택된 정제공정은 스크러빙에 의한 슬라임제거, 부유선별 및 자력선별법을 단계별로 적용하였다.
- 연구대상 시료별로 상이한 정제효과를 나타내었으며, 함철불순물제거에 의한 철성분 제거율은 국내산 89.3%, 중국산 81.6%, 인도산 78.1 %, 북한산 77.7% 순이었다.
- 함유량이 가장 많은 알루미늄 성분 제거율은 북한산 46.0%, 중국산 38.3%, 국내 산 35.0%, 인도산 35.0% 이었다.
- 베트남 규사광의 정제공정에서는 SiO₂ 품위가 99.8wt.% 이상의 산물을 93mass% 회수할 수 있었다.
- 천연 규석광을 이용하여 실리카 순도 99.9wt%의 고순도 제품을 위해서는 화학적 정제방법이 포함된 정제공정을 적용하여야 할 것으로 판단된다.
3. 국내외 실리카 광물에 함유된 불순물의 화학적 침출특성 연구
- 화학침출을 위하여 5종류의 산을 사용하였으며, 단독 혹은 혼합산을 이용하는 정제공정에서의 효과를 검토하였다.
: 거의 모든 불순물들에 대해 HCl/HF>HNO₃/HF>Aqua regia>Oxalic acid의 순으로 불순물 제거율 적용됨.
: Fe 경우도 옥살산에서보다 HCl/HF, HNO₃/HF, Aqua regia에서 제거율이 높음.
- 정제 공정에서 침출조의 용액혼합방법에 따른 불순물 제거율은 Ultra-sonic > Stirring > Shaking의 순으로 제거율 높음.
- 실리카원료의 산지에 따른 불순물의 제거율에 차이가 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다.
: 인도네시아 산> 국내산 > 중국산에 비하여 알루미나 등의 Major 불순물 제거율이 높은 특성을 나타내었다.
- 물리적 정제산물(SiO₂ = 99wt%)에 대한 Ultra-sonic 교반조건에서 HCl/HF 혼합산에 의한 침출결과 SiO₂ = 99.9wt% 수준의 고순도 정제산물을 얻을 수 있었다.
4. 중성자 방사화 분석(NAA)을 이용한 실리가 순도 평가 특성 연구
- NAA가 가지는 비파괴/절대분석 특징을 고순도 실리카의 순도측정에 적용하고자 하였다. 그러나, 30Si(n,γ)31Si 핵반응을 이용한 1266keV 감마선을 계측하여 측정하는 조건에서 자체고유 분석 오차가 실리카에 따라서 0.85-1.5% 정도 발생함을 나타내었기 때문에 이러한 직접 분석법으로 2N 이상의 SiO₂순도 측정은 불가능 한 것으로 판단되었다.
- 실리카에 함유될 수 있는 불순물을 분석함으로써 상대적인 실리카 순도측정방법이 타당할 것으로 판단됨. : 원소분석법을 이용하여 실리카에 함유된 총 불순물을 분석한 결과 총 39종의 불순물을 측정할 수 있었으며, NAA는 이 중 28종의 불순물 분석이 가능하였다.
5. 실리카 분말입자의 표면특성 분석 및 제어특성 연구(위탁연구)
- 실리카 미립자의 열처리 및 silane coupling agent에 의한 표면피복 처리를 통하여 실리카 미립자의 표면작용기 및 표면전하 변화를 측정할 수 있었다.
- Zeta-potential, EFM, Electrokinetic analyzer 분석을 통한 표면분석기법을 확립 하였으며, Electrokinetic analyzer 분석을 통한 고체상태의 표면전하 측정방법을 개발하였음.
V. 연구개발결과의 활용계획
- 국내산 실리카 광물의 부가가치 향상을 위한 개발기술의 확산
- IT 산업용 실리카소재의 안정적 공급 및 신소재개발 기반 구축
- 국내부존 자원 및 해외 자원의 부가가치 제고 기술의 확보
- 태양전지 제조 등 IT산업원료 제조업체로의 기술이전에 의한 실용화 유도
- 실리카 원료의 수입대체 및 수출 부가가치 향상
