I. 제목 :
수소 Station을 위한 개질가스의 고순도 수소 분리 및 정제 요소기술 개발
II. 연구개발의 목적 및 필요성
- 현재 수소는 정밀화학, 전자 산업, 반도체 공정, 석유 화학 공정, 암모니아 및 비료의 생산 공정 등에 주로 사용되고 있으며, 최근에는 연료전지 자동차용 수소스테이션 및 연료전지용 연료개질기의 용도로 연구 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있음.
- 연료전지의 상용 보급을 위해서는 저가의 연료전지 개발이 필요하나 연료전지에 수를 공급하는 인프라의 구축도 중요한 기술임. 수소 스테이션(hydrogen station)은 연료전지 및 수소 기관 자동차에 수소를 공급하는 수소 충전 설비임.
- 수소 스테이션에서는 수소의 생산, 운송비, 저장 방식, 설비의 용이성 및 안정성 등에 대한 실증 실험 및 경제성 분석이 진행되고 있으며 이를 통하여 앞으로 다가올 연료전지 자동차(fuel cell-powered vehicle)의 상용화 및 수소 경제의 도래를 위한 인프라 구축의 차원에서 수소 스테이션의 국산화 기술 개발은 큰 의미가 있음.
- 수소 제조 공정에는 일반적으로 수증기 개질(steam reforming)반응. 부분산화(Partial oxidation)반응 및 자열(autothermal reforming)반응 등이 사용되며, 개질된 합성가스는 수성가스전환 (water gas shift) 반응과 선택적 부분산화 (preferential Partial oxidation) 반응공정에 의해 CO 농도를 저감시키는 촉매공정이 필수적으로 연구되며, 과량의 수소가스는 흡착분리(pressure swing adsorption) 및 막분리(membrane) 등을 이용하여 고순도의 수소를 회수할 수 있음.
- PSA 공정에 대한 국내 기술은 현재 연구에 의한 실증 단계에 있으며 이를 수소스테이션에 적용하고 상용화하기 위해서는 관련기술을 보다 체계적으로 정비하고 확립 할 필요가 있음
- 수소 스테이션은 제한된 공간내에 수소 제조, 탈황, 분리 및 정제, 저장 및 주입 시스템을 포함해야 하므로 고성능 촉매개발, 시스템의 고효율화 및 컴팩트(compact)화를 위한 공정 최적화가 요구됨.
III. 연구개발의 내용 및 범위
LPG SR
- LPG SR 반응기 설계 / 제작
- 상용 CH₄ SR 촉매군을 대체할 수 있는 신규 촉매군 선정 / 제조
- 촉매 성능 최적화 (내구성 확립)
- 촉매 제조 scale up
WGS

수소분리 및 정제
- PSA법에 의한 수소의 분리정제 기초특성 확보
- 흡착제 선정 및 흡착제에 대한 흡착평형/속도 측정
- Bench 규모의 PSA 수소분리 및 동특성 확립 (1 N㎥/hr)
- Bench 규모의 PSA 흡착분리 장치의 운전조건 최적화
- 최적 PSA 공정 개발 및 scale-up 설계 factor 도출
- 30 N㎥/hr 규모의 수소 스테이션용 Pilot Plant 예비 기본설계
IV. 연구개발결과
LPG SR 촉매 개발
- hydrotalcite 구조를 형성하기 위해 공침된 Ni계 촉매는 함침된 촉매보다 BET 표면적과 active metal 표면적이 증가됨을 확인.
LPG SR 촉매 활성 test
- Ni/MgAl 촉매와 ICI 촉매의 활성을 비교한 결과 두 촉매의 활성은 거의 유사하며 반응조건상에서 140시간 이후부터는 Ni/MgAl 촉매의 활성이 보다 안정적으로 유지됨을 확인.
- 두 촉매 모두 탄소침적 억제력에는 한계를 보임
- 탄소침적 억제력을 향상시키기 위해 제조된 Rh-Ni/MgAl 촉매는 1024시간 동안 활성이 유지되며, 탄소침적 억제력도 비약적으로 향상됨.
WGS 촉매 제조
- 함침법을 이용하여 CeO₂, ZrO₂ 지지체에 Cu계 촉매를 담지하고, Cex-Zr1-xO₂ Urea 법을 이용해 제조한 뒤 Cu 금속 담지
- 함침된 Cu 촉매에 Mo를 promoter로 다양한 조성으로 담지
WGS 촉매 활성 test
- ZrO₂ 담체를 이용하여 제조된 촉매활성보다 CeO₂에 담지된 촉매가 보다 활성이 좋았으며, 제조된 촉매는 중온영역에서부터 상용 LTS 촉매보다 활성이 우수함.
- Ce-ZrO₂ 담체를 이용한 촉매가 활성이 가장 우수하였으며, Mo이 promoter로 소량 첨가된 경우 제조된 촉매의 thermal cycling에 대한 내구성이 증가됨을 확인.
PSA 공정 개발
Lab-scale 및 Bench-scale PSA 공정
- 다양한 운전 변수에서 실험 및 전산 모사 결과, 4탑 10단계 PSA공정이 가장 효율적으로 나타남.
Bench-scale PSA 공정
- Lab-scale PSA 공정 실험을 기반으로 최적 운전조건 확립.
- Scale-up factor 도출 : 체류시간(residence time) 30초 이상에서 순도 99.999% 이상의 수소를 75% 이상 회수할 수 있음을 확인함.
- Calgon사의 활성탄과 W.R. Grace사의 제올라이트 5A를 이용하여 흡착평형 실험을 실시하였으며 불순물에 대한 선택적 흡착 특성을 확인.
30 N㎥/hr 급 H₂ PSA공정 예비 설계
- Bench-scale PSA공정 결과를 기반으로 전산모사를 한 결과 비슷한 결과를 나타냄을 확인하였으며 체류시간이 흡착탑 설계 시 중요한 design factor로 작용함을 확인함.
- 흡착탑이 부피가 증가가 공정효율을 상승시키지 못하며 유입유량 및 성상에 따라 최적 흡착탑의 부피가 존재함.
- 30N㎥/hr의 수소를 생산하기 위해서는 4탑 10단계 PSA 공정 운전 시 체류시간 43.76초, 흡착탑 내경 23.7cm, 흡착탑 높이 170cm가 최적으로 나타났으며, 이때 순도 99.999%이상의 수소를 75%이상 회수할 수 있음.
V. 연구개발결과의 활용계획
- LPG SR 이응 수소스테이션 국산화 공정개발에 활용 (Reforming, WGS)
- 수증기 개질 및 WGS 반응용 촉매의 성형화를 위한 기초 데이터로 활용
- 촉매 제조 단가 격하를 위한 고성능 촉매군 선정을 위한 기본 데이터로 활용
- 고순도 수소 분리를 위한 PSA 공정의 scale up을 위한 설계자료로 활용
- PSA공정 모사 데이터는 수소스테이션의 활용 최적 운전조건 확립에 활용
