Before addressing the law, this volume begins with the social and historical context of domestic violence, the dynamics of abusive relationships, and the battering experience, as well as issues of health, reproductive rights, and sexual autonomy. Law coverage includes civil protective orders, criminal justice, evidence, defenses, divorce and custody, family courts, the child protective system, tort law, immigration and asylum, civil rights, and international human rights. The first edition was published in 2001 as Battered Women and the Law, (Schneider and Dalton), based on coursework lectures at Harvard Law School and Northeastern University School of Law; the second, in 2008, added co-authors and changed the title; this third edition sees author changes as well. Affiliations are as follows: Schneider (Brooklyn Law School), Hanna (Vermont Law School), Sack (Roger Williams University School of Law), and Greenberg (New England School of Law, Boston).
