These studies are conducted about the effects of Hwangryun-bokryungtang on the circulatory system and central nervous system with the investigation of its clinical effects based on Oriental Medical literature of Hwangryunbokryungtang.
The resuIts are as follows:
1. The effects of vasodilatation and blood pressure decrease due to the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle were obtained.
2. The contractile force of the extracted heart was remarkably restricted in frogs.
3. The increases of the serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and phospholipid in hypercholesterolemic rabbits were greatly restricted by continuing administration of cholesterol.
4. The effects of diuresis were noted in rabbits.
5. Anticonvulsive effects to strychnine were not recognized but the effects of anticonvuIsion to picrotoxin and caffeine were recognized.
6. Analgesic effects were observed in mice.
7. There was a prolongation of sleeping hours by pentobarbital.
From the above results, it is recognized that Hwangryunbokryungtang reveals restricting effect in cardiac contractile force, vasodilatating hypotensive effect, restricting effect in hyperlipemic and diuretic effect on the circulatory system as well as the effect of restricting the function of central nervous system, and these resuIts support Oriental Medical literatures and clinical use.
Therefore it is thought that Hwangryunbokryungtang couId be applied, especially, in treatment of hypertension and cardiac diseases (ischemic heart disease and heart failure) extensively.
