Recently, the Naval warship sin the Advanced countries are being built with the way of electric propulsion which applied the newest technology but in our country case, it marks time to build the warship with electric propulsion system(E.P.S) due to lack of the related technical and the will of development. This main mentions the ships with the initial electrical acceleration system, the status of invention of the our naval warships and in the future development tendency.
In order to complement the defect of mechanical propulsion system, E.P.S was invented and applied to the ships. But there was its own defects and then it went down since 1940's.
In 1980's, we were faced with necessity of this system with the new upgraded technology and applied it to ships. It has been improving since then. There is a special feature in process such as development, stagnation, re-adoption. It is that In the past, the warships were focused on to maximize ship's hardware such as capability, weight however the most recent, they have to focus on reliability, efficiency, economical efficiency of the warships as well as improve the hardware with a powerful weapon system in order to survive.
We have tried to optimize the system in order to pursuit economical efficiency and efficiency in the power system of the warships and commercial ships, as a result of that, we have finally adopted IPS(Intergrated Power System) and IFEP(Intergrated Full Electric Propulsion).
In our country, E.P.S is being applying to the only commercial ships but its not applied to the Naval warships. Now the Korea Navy with the goal to be the Blue Ocean Navy is faced with what to improve such as works with adoption and development of the E.P.S.
