Recently the construction of reinforced retaining wall has been done in various fields as its construction is simple and quality management is easy. The phenomena of deformation of corruption of reinforced retaining walls were increased due to carelessness of design and construction, and in this regard the cases of failure in construction were analyzed for new construction work of ○○ factory in P city and 3 other places in this study. Through the study, problems such as cracks in corner joints, efflorescence phenomena, swollen phenomena and rainwater at the time of construction were presented and plan for improvement for respective problems are suggested.
At the time of rainfall, earth pressures are excessively applied to the corner joints of retaining wall and thus cracks and corruption phenomena are increasing. Therefore, the installation of geogrid of corner joints in the form of square at the design stage was suggested in order to prevent cracks in the corner joints. And as an improvement plan at the time of the occurrence of cracks at corner joints, suggestions were made for the structural reinforcement of retaining wall through th injection of epoxy and feeding while suggesting finishing work using shotcrete after bolt feeding using iron plate.
Efflorescence phenomena is occurred by the melting of hardened pore water, moving of the melted pore water to surface through capillary pores and the evaporation of moisture. In order to eliminate such phenomena, high pressure washing using water-soluble alkali salt, rubbing with sand paper using calcium carbonate salt or finishing works using silicon or cement. The analysis showed the result that most important preventive measures than anything else to prevent the efflorescence phenomena is to reduce the unit quantity using high performance water receding agent and thus to product high intensity block while casting the block indoor as influence by meteorological condition is significant.
Major causes for swollen phenomena were fraudulent construction, earth pressure or problem from post pounding after filling. Accordingly, through the detailed drawing, iron core is reinforced using geogrid for the edge of post filling materials for the improvement of the swollen phenomena. The result of analysis showed that through this, separation phenomena of post filling material will prevent and sustaining force of retaining wall will be increased.
Fraudulent drainage facilities at the time of foundation works is one of the major factors for the problems caused by rainwater at the time of construction. Accordingly, the use of small size aggregates was suggested to use for post filling through accurate drainage facilities. In case localized torrential rainfall is anticipated at the time of site construction, the height of block terrace should be induced to be similar to that of post filling material. And also, it was suggested that the deformation of post filling material should be minimized by inducing natural drainage at the time of inflow of rainwater.
