Nation and media is an essential agency respectively to understand modern society. It is generally accepted in modern society that media should guard government whether using its power properly as a ‘watch dog’ and protect government officials’ abuse of power and further promote public interest.
However international news is belong to a frame which gives priority to national interest as an intrinsic attribute. Recline (1988) insist a fact that the meaning of international accident is often derived from image and understanding under cultural, political background of the corresponding nation rather than accident itself. In brief, international reports undergo many influences from nation interest first
This research started discussion about relationship between nation and media, and found that media’s role as ‘guard dog' is desirable but relating to international news, media is hard to be free from nation’s interest.
Under these theories, I focused how change of diplomatic policy affects to international news report in fulfilling nation interest. The research specially observed the change of the news frame according to diplomatic change and set analytic period of the Bush Administration first and second stage for comparison.
Inaugurated on 2001, President Bush (George W. Bush) of the United States which composes the first administration He succeeded to second selection in 2004 and starts his second administration. During his first and second administration, President Bush, related with a foreign policy, especially to the North Korea policy express visible change clearly.
From this research, I could find a fact that a frame of New York Times editorial was affected in part according to changed policy of the Bush Administration. Namely, it reflected the foreign policy of the administration in some degree
Also the research result can confirm that the embrace against the North Korea where the New York Times traditionally had was disappearing visibly
