To those who may not be familiar with the term, the technical manual is what narrates the operation and management procedures of various weapon systems including aircraft. With the development of computer technology, paper material technical manual has undergone transformation into electronic technical manual which is now being widely utilized in the first line of maintenance fields.
Although electronic technical manual is being acknowledged as a popular choice among the world's leading nations including those who manufactures the aircraft that are currently in service by the Republic of Korea Air Fore, due to the inferior technical infrastructure in the first line of maintenance fields, the ROKAF has been misled to possess indefinite notions on the effectiveness of electronic technical manual in operating efficiency. As a result, the electronic technical manual application in ROKAF has yet to gone complete on-line while depending solely on distribution of CD-ROM for an off-line use.
Therefore, this thesis will take a close look at the current state of the electronic technical manual application in the ROKAF to point out the ongoing issues. In proposing the possible solution to the ongoing problems, the thesis designs an off-line based electronic technical manual application which reminisces the Web Clipping technique. The thesis states that by utilizing the Web Clipping technique to upload electronic technical manual on to a PDA, maintenance personnels will be able to make a full use of electronic technical manual in the off-line, thus allowing the electronic technical manual distribution medium to be shifted from CD-ROM format to a real-time data transfer. In addition to that, the commercial PDA which can easily be purchased in the open-market will allow the economical efficiency and flexibility in usage.
Also, in consideration of the wartime affairs such as a destruction of the computer infrastructure i.e server, network and etc, the thesis proposes an off-line application as an alternative to the on-line incapable situation.
