The beauty of Korea is not the flawless beauty, but is found in simple and artless art in which it is not balanced and introspected, and pure beauty of its curve in nature. The formative elements of arabesque pattern may be referred to the beauty of curve which is full of strength and vitality. Organic line emphasizes the flexible rhythm and sometimes wildly rhythmic movement. Also it exhibits the aesthetic stability through elegant and stylish curve and the form in which curve and variation of curve appear, contain the repetition, transformation and even tension.
Thus, the researchers produced it with lyrical movements which meet the Korean emotion with a focus on expression of feeling of natural and flowing lines by simplifying the unique shape and soft and dynamic curvedness which arabesque pattern has.
As production methods, units of arabesque had a three-dimensional effect through exaggeration and simplification from various angles. As molding methods, slip casting using plaster mold in which free representation of shape and repetition are easy, pressing casting and plate casting were used. For surface decoration, fretwork and engraving were used.
Porcelain clay for injection showing the terseness and sophistication and san baik clay showing simplicity were used. In terms of glazing, no glazing was applied in order to give the elegant and neat impression of overall shape of pattern. In terms of fretwork and engraving, partial glazing was applied to give the feeling of inlaid work and they were calcined at 800 C for 1sttime and at1 250C for2nd time using electrickilns.
As mentioned above, ceramic expression utilizing arabesque can maintain the simplicity and splendor through beauty of elegance by various uses of existing pattern, endless vitality and repetition of form as well as show a wider range of expression.
The study of this traditional pattern may serve as an opportunity to find value and possibility of Korean Culture in the culture of modern period.
