The purpose of this study is to find out the efficiency of Korean Idiom Education by way of metonymy, one of cognitive meaning mechanisms, centering around idioms related with 'hand'. It does not mean that the existing teaching-learning method is wrong, but means that individual words consisting of the idioms can lead to the whole meaning of the idiom, being motivated by metaphor, metonymy and conventional knowledge. For this, metonymy, one of cognitive meaning mechanisms, its conception and type were examined.
Next. in chapter 3, the meaning of idioms related with 'hand' by way of metonymy which had been actually used in class was analyzed, adapting to its types and in chapter 4, an experimental class was practiced on the basis of that.
As a result of the experiment, it was found that class to which metonymy was applied was more efficient than that to which metonymy was not applied. On the basis of this result of studies. I hope that cognitive linguistic point of view can be applied to real site of Korean language education and that studies in connection with this can be carried out more actively.
