This study attempted to investigate the satisfaction with oral examination in the medical examination and behavior intention of locally insured person having the low medical examination rate compared to insured salaried persons in general. And it attempted to consider the medical examination system capable of people's oral health as well as the efficiency of oral examination in the medical examination through this.
Data collection was conducted over the period between Sept 14 and Oct 15, 2012. For this purpose, the questionnaire research was conducted for 200 persons(male: 122; female:78) provided with oral examination of the general medical examination items, as the persons provided with medical examination at the general hospital of 'A' City in Kyonggi Province, the householders having their own business in 'A' City and the locally insured persons aged 40 years, in 2011 and in 2012. As a result, the following findings were obtained:
First, subjects showed unsatisfactory responses to the oral examination in relation to the time required and the dentist's explanation and attitude on the whole and said that they were not helpful for oral health management. And they had no great intention to use the dental clinic in relation to oral examination.
Second, only a few respondents said that they were satisfied with the current oral examination. The matters they wanted to be improved at the time of oral examination were in orders of the need for sufficient explanation, the securing of a sufficient examination time, and the expansion of the examination items.
Third, only a few respondents showed the intention to recommend the oral examination to the people receiving no oral examination.
Locally insured person experienced in receiving the oral examination of the medical examination items had a negative view of the oral examination currently conducted on the whole. An investigation of the current procedure for oral examination practice showed that there might to be a tendency for the oral examination to be formally conducted or neglected according to the circumstances of the hospital as the time of medical examination is not set but within the time of medical treatment. Accordingly, for the current oral examination system to go in a right direction, the policy alternative is needed to get out of the formal oral examination by securing the sufficient examination time and systematizing the method of examination. And it is necessary to allow the oral examination to continue performing a role of oral health management for the purpose of promoting people's oral health, not one-shot examination. Finally, to induce the healing of oral diseases after the oral examination, this study proposed the scheme for continued health education about the need for the reduction of medical expenses and the early healing of oral diseases.
