This study aims to establish teaching and learning measures for the new integrated education of reading and writing to perform the integrated education emphasized in the 7th Revision of Middle School's Korean Language Education Course.
The 7th Revision of Middle School's Korean Language Education Course sets the ultimate target of the education course as 'the improvement of learners' Korean language capabilities'. The focus of the course is on establishing the Korean language education course close to the real life based on the integration of areas in Korean language with 'the emphasis of the relation between the actual and the content components and of the integration of content components'. Also, the course systematically directs for the contents for the integrated education to improve learners' Korean language capabilities in the items of 'the teaching and learning measure', 'the content components' and 'the accomplishment criteria' as well.
While the 7th Revision of Middle School's Korean Language Education Course emphasizes the integrated education as above, 23 middle school Korean language text books reflecting the purposes are revised. Some text books among the 23 middle school Korean language text books have more or less difficult parts to perform the integrated education in chapters and in learning contents. However, in overall, the text books are reflecting the purpose of the new education course well.
After the analyses of the revised 23 middle school Korean language text books, '6. The Communicating World' chapter of 『Haenaem Edu』 press's text, which is found be the best in reflecting the emphasized points in the 7th Revision of Middle School's Korean Language Education Course, is selected, and 〈Suggestion〉 the Reading and Learning Measure for the Integrated Education of Reading and Writing is established.
The purpose to conduct the integrated education of reading and writing is set because the reading and writing deliver a writer's thought to readers, and has relations to readers' thinking processes to newly build meanings of writings through writers' considerations. Also, the activity of reading and writing is the most frequently performed in actual Korean language education fields, the reading and writing is selected as the object for the integrated teaching and learning.
This study utilizes the additional type integration method for the integration education of reading and writing. The additional type integration method is familiar to learners, yet, on the other hands, not well utilized in actual Korean language learning fields. In other words, in actual Korean language learning fields, only reading activities are conducted while writing activities are frequently proposed as home works or excluded. This study proposes the measure to improve this circumstance by considering the problems of existing integrated education which has been integrating in only forms.
Therefore, this study has its meaning to establish teaching and learning measures of the integrated education for the efficient reading and writing utilizing the revised middle school Korean language text books based on the critical points in the 7th Revision of Middle School's Korean Language Education Course.
