In Korean shipbuilding industry, which is leading the field of Shipbuilding all over the world, there are lots of people working hard and each shipyard has been using the existing specialty publications and also the teaching materials developed by themselves to teach the incumbents. However, due to the specialty of the work, the trial field barely could have an access to the proper references and data, compared to the other types of fields.
Under the very competitively changing circumstance of the worldwide shipbuilding industry, the trial field expertise in charge of the last part among many shipbuilding processes needs to be revitalized, so that it could be connected to productivity increase, quality improvement, time shortening, etc. based on technical development and shipbuilding construction method improvement for Korean shipbuilding industry to maintain its competitive edge.
On this study, among the trial fields needed for sailing, the machinery part trial field is to be discussed, which check on all sorts of equipments including main engines and auxiliary engines with relatively complicated production processes in terms of structures, manufacturing, and installation and inspect if they have the utmost building performances. For its productivity increase, quality improvement, time shortening, and so on, the examples of the technical problems and the accidents are to be focused and analyzed, and also I will suggest the effective and fundamental methods to be followed as the proposal for Korean shipbuilding industry's continuous productivity increase.
Through a variety of references, the outline, the types and items of works, and the processing order of the machinery part trial field were searched for and the understanding of the system for the major equipments for the quay trial and the sea trial is summarized and explained. For the parts of analyzing the examples of the technical problems and the accidents, the problems that may happen during the process of trial are discussed thoroughly and the actual application cases of various improvement methods are thoroughly searched for.
As a result, it seems that analyzing the causative factors and the applicable measure, and the improvement methods can contribute to the development and improvement of various management skills, while focusing on the previous examples of the accidents during the machinery part trial field. It was also achieved that the introduction of M/E L.O line flushing heater, which is the improved version of the previous processing methods, can make 3~4 days of processing time shortening and oil saving, as well. It is because it does not use the steam of the boiler, but it rather uses the electric heater. Therefore, it maintains the temperature of L.O, so it does not go to the delay of the entire processes while having some delays in the boiler system.
It also made the conclusion that the competitiveness of shipbuilding industry depends on the attitudes of the workers, even if it does depend on the hardware such as production facilities. As some accidents such as oil spill accident, rainwater inflow accident, the accidents with residue inside the pipes can hugeously damage the company, the guidelines as well as education and training by the managers are needed. In that way, those accidents are prevented in advance with the frequent inspections.
Even though there is a limitation to analyze all the diversities of the ships and all the factors for the techniques and improvements in terms of productivity increase, it was very worth analyzing and studying systematically on many accidents and the methods for the improvement.
