In Korea, a variety of industries are facing rapid changes. Especially, knowledge-based industries are dramatically developing enough to be so remarkable in the world economy. In the country, recently, specialized high schools are being increasingly established. Among them, beauty high schools already have long existed. They have their own department of beauty in accordance with their foundation purpose. There are still an increasing number of students who apply for that department. For students, school life satisfaction and career are the most important issues. If they fail to adapt themselves to their school, students may suffer severe internal conflicts. Therefore, it can be said that the most important part of school education is to make students, who are about to start their life in earnest, realize the importance of school life satisfaction and career maturity and have an occupational view that lead them to be sound, competitive professionals. In this sense, this study aims to examine beauty high school students' school life satisfaction and career maturity and determine how much the satisfaction influences the maturity, providing basic information needed to create career guidance materials and programs for increasing those students' school life satisfaction and career maturity and ultimately help the students have a high quality of life.
For this purpose, this researcher conducted a preliminary research from May 25th to June 15th, 2013 by making a questionnaire survey of 50 students attending at beauty high schools located in Busan. In this case, the questionnaire consisted of 65 items. Based on the results of the survey, then, a modified and supplemented version of the questionnaire was prepared. After that, the researcher surveyed 400 students attending at beauty high schools located in Busan by using that version which consisted of 54 items. In this case, total 400 copies of the form were distributed, and 389 of them were collected and analyzed. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, correlations between beauty high school students' school life satisfaction and career maturity was investigated to find that there's a significant difference between those students' career maturity as a whole and school life satisfaction as a whole. Second, beauty high school students satisfaction with class and learning activities is the factor that has the biggest influence on their career maturity. Their satisfaction with educational environments also affects their career decisiveness, reality consideration and career maturity as a whole. And those students' understanding of themselves and their future job has influences on their reality consideration and career maturity. Third, the effects of beauty high school students' school life satisfaction on the distribution of their career maturity were examined to find that the satisfaction is significantly differently depending on how the distribution is. In case that they are placed low on the distribution of career maturity, students should be raised in social satisfaction and interpersonal relations satisfaction in order that they can show improvement in their career maturity. In case that they are placed very low on the distribution, students should be promoted to raise their satisfaction with social supports in order that their can have their career maturity improved. High on the distribution of career maturity, students should be induced to reduce their satisfaction with educational environments in order that they can make their career maturity higher. If placed very high on the distribution, students need to be raised in satisfaction with interpersonal relations in order that they can make their career maturity even higher. This study examined the effects of beauty high school students' school life satisfaction on their career maturity, providing basic information for the career guidance of those students in accordance with the degree of their school life satisfaction. However, the study has some limitations because it worked with students of beauty high schools located only in Busan. Therefore, subsequent researches should focus on such high schools around this country. To improve the career maturity of beauty high school students, in addition, lots of special counseling programs and career guidance directions that are positive and future-oriented should be created and developed.
