Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate symptoms, anxiety, depression and quality of life in colorectal cancer patients who underwent stoma reversal, and to assess the factors affecting their quality of life.
Methods : It was a descriptive study that involved 128 colorectal cancer patients ubo underuent stoma reversal in a University Hospital in Korea. Data were colleted using self-measurement tools European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer-Quality of Life Core 30 and Colorectal cancer specific Questionnaire 38 (EORTC QLQ-C30 and CR38), Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HADS) from September to December 2013. Analysis was done by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOUA, Pearson's correlation and Multiple regression.
Results : There were significant correlations between anxiety, depression, symptoms experience and qualify of life. Global health status quality of life were significantly correlated with Body image, Future perspective, Gastro-intestinal tract Symptoms, Chemotherapy side-effects, Defecation problems. Functional quality of life were significantly correlated with Body image, Future perspective, Gastro-intestinal tract Symptoms, Defecation problems, micturation problems, Sexual problems of Male, and Weight loss. Symptomatic quality of life were significantly correlated with Body image, Future perspective, Chemotherapy side-effects, Gastro-intestinal tract Symptoms, Sexual enjoyment, Defecation problems, weight loss. Sexual functioning, Sexual problems of Male, and micturation problems. The multiple regression showed that depression was the factor that impacted on quality of life in colorectal patients with stoma reversal.
Conclusion : As a result, depress ion was the important factor that made contribution to colorectal cancer patients' quality of life. It is needed to include emotional support in nursing interventions for improving the quality of life in colorectal patients with stoma reversal.
