This study aims to identify determinants of turnover intention and their priority. The results show that compensation is the most important factor followed by personnel, specificity of labor on board, job characteristics and structural characteristics.
Offered better job, disharmony among colleagues, restriction on choice of vacation, unsocial and un-domestic nature, and marriage were identified as most important determinant factors of turnover intention.
Restriction on selection of annual leave, short period of leave, home problems like marriage, low level of welfare and salary comparing with shore were also regarded as important factors of turnover intention.
The implication of the results is that compensation is the most important factor when considering turnover and non-monetary factor is also important. Government needs to enforce control to provide reasonable annual leave which is the main reason for turnover and to increase ratio of reserved seamen ocean-going merchant vessel.
