A backhaul systems may be defined as "the operation of eliminating the tolerance in the shipping container with the efficiency of the transportation is performed", but it is necessary to get a permission by a container shipping liner which makes a difficulty of container managements.
Thus it is one of causing factor to increase the waste of time and cost for transportation company and it makes a total logistics costs are a factor in rising.
In this study, main issues for obstructing a successful container backhaul system is analyzed and the efficiency methods are proposed through case analysis.
As details of the study, firstly, we reviewed the import and export process for containerized cargo and the process of container repair and inspection system. Furthermore we analyzed the situation in the inland transport of backhaul system.
Since then, we analysed the main issues of backhaul system such as; container management method, the location and operation rules for container inspection, and rebates between container transportation company and container shipping liner. To increase the efficiency of container backhaul system, we proposed a container tracking system, container pooling system and inland container inspection's expansion plan by considering the above mentioned three main issues.
To review the reduction of transportation cost and CO2 emission, finally, we verify the efficiency of container backhaul system through actual container shipping liner and container transportation data in Korea.
