The impoverished conditions in Africa and parts of Asia all emerged as a result of the enslavement or servility to alien laws and customs. "Their" indigenous cultures, norms and habits were countermanded and to a great extent effaced. Colonialism which I consider a catalyst of all the inhumane treatments to the colonized, a hindrance to freedom and liberty, an initiator of dividing a once united group of people and their states through the vicious scramble and partition, and above all the advent of colonialism was a thrall to all those who were victims of subjugation.
To effectively enact colonial policy a lot was taken into consideration. Specifically, the church/mission played a wonderful role in introducing the gospel but failed to an extent to intervene or reduce the colonial orders of indigenous indictment and inhumane treatments. However, missionary works remain a towering force to contributions made towards freedom and independence of the once colonized Korea and French Cameroon under Japanese and French colonial rule.
The creation of liberal movements, International Organizations like the UN (1945) inspired Korea and French Cameroon to fight for their independence. Though this wind of change was became realized, the force of colonialism had rested a tool of divide and rule tactics among the subjugated people. For instance, Korea became divided into North and South while French Cameroon and British Cameroon pondered over the question of reunification. Today both Korea and Cameroon are a mile-stone hateful of the decisions they had taken during colonial declination.
Faced with the challenges of colonialism, Korea after independence triumphed progressively from its ramshackle, ruined post-colonial war-torn nation to one of economic elevation. Today, Korea is admired and considered a model for nation building especially in modern technology, socio- political, economic and agricultural innovations. Meanwhile, Cameroon's process of development and complete detachment from former colonial master (France) remains a big issue. It is visibly clear that Cameroon still suffers from neo-colonialism as it is seen from the efforts shown by the local government towards development. Colonial remnant had its impact whether positively or negatively on both the local government and the people. However, a typical Cameroonian still posse the thoughts of emotional and physical subjection because our governmental, national and natural resources are manipulated a great deal, Almost all National and Trans-national Corporations are managed with greater shares by the French, most bottle-neck projects are executed by French personnel etc. If Colonialism had never existed, the new form of colonialism which is called Neo-colonialism would never have existed and in Africa and especially in Cameroon.
If the present distressed, bankrupt and depleting Cameroonian economy intend to attain a booming and enriched economy, policy makers, market economists, politicians and nation builders should employ the most influential advocate and economic historian Walt W. Rostow's stages-of-growth development. Rostow's theory argues that a country must pass through sequential stages in achieving development. Also other theories like the Structural -change theory ;( the hypothesis that underdevelopment is due to underutilization of resources and so it believes that development requires just more than accelerated capital). The Lewis theory of development which specifies the Structural Transformation (the manufacturing sector's contribution to nation building eventually surpasses the contribution brought about by agricultural sector), the Lewis-two-sector model and the Surplus Labor. Therefore, these classic theories of Economics should not be undermined by development experts in Africa and Cameroon in particular.
