An indigenous culture of a nation is to be a cultural brand acquainting with the nation. Among others, Korean Buddhist culture is a treasure house of Korean cultural archetypes having its own spirit of nation in full along the 1,700 years long history. In addition, the Buddhist cultural contents as a representative of Korean traditional culture has its significance not only in that it contributes to establishing cultural identity but also in that it is used as a way to expand the Buddhist view of the world and get involved in propagation. Recently, the Buddhist scholars have been involved a variety of discussion to make and develop the Buddhist cuUural contents properly and to create friendly image of Buddhism for communication with the public through varied contents development. That is where the Buddhist cultural contents obtain their value as culture propagation.
This study is to find the way to utilize the Buddhist cultural contents in Daewonsa as cultural propagation, where the researcher is affiliated in Boseong-gun. Thus, the Buddhist cultural contents in Daewonsa is configured with the keyword 'Daewon to be a project 'the Journey to Dae won' accompanying cultural experience and Buddhism. As for the overall picture of the project, Daewon as a unified world is conveyed with each spatial fragment separated and the function of each space consists of religion area, culture area, and the temple stay connecting both areas.
First of all, the configuration of the religion area is planned to establish the status of Daewonsa as the sanctuary of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Hence, setting the concept of the religion area as 'A Journey from the Underworld to the Paradise', there are proposed three suggestions to utilize the contents. First, it makes the temple specialized at the Ritual for the Unborn Dead by firming up its status as the sanctuary of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Second, it specializes in the death experiencing program. Third, it turns the Bardo Way in the temple site into the road from the underworld to the paradise as a pilgrimage road.
Next, it is the temple stay program that takes the most important consideration in the plan to activate temple stay which makes the religion area and culture area in connection. This study judging that the temple should make its own program activated and positioned as an independent brand, the brand name of temple stay is called 'Let me reflect on myself' with intent to Find the True Self, an extension of the project 'the Journey to Daewon'. Furthermore, there are plans suggested activating the existing programs of well being and well dying and specializing Soobyokchigi and 'the Experience of Tibet and Indian Culture'.
At last, as for the culture area, there are three suggestions with the concept of Buddhist culture theme tour for the purpose of culture propagation. The first one is to convert the Tibet-India museum into the museum with the theme of Buddhist culture, whose concept is 'the Bus Trip to Tibet and India'. Second, it suggests establishing the image of Daewonsa as the first place of tea cultivation, which proposes the symbolizing configuration of Daewonsa as the first place of tea cultivation in Boseong by renewal of tourism resources related to tea cultivation based on the existing tourism supporting system of Boseong. Especially, by representing WonOh National Priest as for Zen Tea in Daewonsa, the concept of 'Taste Zen in Tea (茶禪一味)' - to have Tea is to practice Zen - is to be a distinctive brand, considering as opportunity to enhance the Zen culture while Kim Jijang, the Buddhist monk, is referred to as a 'Buddha of Zen tea', who is to be the historical root in Korean tea culture. Moreover, considering that the Buddhist cultural contents planning of Daewonsa takes 'Dae won' as the keyword, the project 'the Journey to Daewon' begins at the very road with cherry blossoms in Daewonsa. This study finds the story of 'the Journey Back to Mother's Arms' from the relation between the cherry blossom road and geomantic location of Daewonsa temple, suggesting the story content development of cherry blossom road by emphasizing the road to Daewonsa is not just a passage to walk but a trip toward the very origin of the self.
Based on the discussion above, the following is the utilization plan for the Buddhist cultural contents in Daewonsa. First, it establishes the brand of Daewonsa temple. Second, it leads to improvement of life quality from well being to well dying through religious culture. Third, it accomplishes the goal of culture propagation. Fourth, it contributes to activation of local community in collaboration with tourism and festivals in Boseong. Fifth, it offers the opportunity to communicate and unify through interplay with various Buddhist culture programs. Now, it is expected for the project 'the Journey to Daewon' to show its vision of new form in communication and unity that all the differences eventually become the one.
