These days many companies think the ethical management is not just the moral choice level of the company but also an important source of company competitiveness and the ethical management is becoming the philosophy of company management. Accordingly, the Korean pharmaceutical industry is putting a lot of effort to achieve the ethical level of the company along with the product quality of global level. Therefore from CEO to the newly hired staffs, the company demands ethical recognition to all the members.
Since 2015, as the demand of higher ethical management in pharmaceutical industry is getting bigger, this research has studied the impact of ethical management of the sales staff of pharmaceutical company to the job performance. In order to achieve the research goals, the theory and preceding research regarding ethical management and job performance was studied and to prove it, a survey was done targeting 115 staffs in 7 Korean pharmaceutical companies.
In this research, as the evaluation criteria of ethical management, subordinate concepts such as the emphasis on results rather than short-term profit, principles and responsibility, and fairness and ethical education were used as the indicators of ethical management. The subordinate variable was job performance and independent variable was set to the ethical management. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment was set as the parameter to analyze the mediation effect between the two variables.
The results of the empirical analysis can be summarized as the following: First, the working environment focusing on short-term profit and result was shown to have a negative impact on the parameter of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Second, the fairness and ethical education was shown to have positive effect on organizational commitment and job performance. Third, regarding the impact of the ethical management of the sales staff to the job performance, job satisfaction plays full mediation role and the organizational commitment plays partial mediation role. Fourth, as a result of the impact of ethical management to job performance, the fairness and ethical education has positive impact to the job performance and as the commitment to the organization is higher, the job performance is greater.
According to the research results above, the ethical management can be said to be an important factor that impacts the job performance of the pharmaceutical sales staffs. Therefore, the ethical management can be said to be an important criteria for the decision making of the sales staffs and it shall be considered to be an important variable that impacts the survival of the company in the future.
