The paper is a comparative study on the 9th grade Korean students' personality interpreted by Saju(四柱) and Holland's theory of career choice.
I set the hypothesis that every people have different personalities that can be categorized into certain types, so once knowing one's personality type can help to prepare for someone's future. And I set the way to prove the hypothesis.
The 'Saju Mingli(四柱命理)', which has history of 1,400 years in the Eastern culture, is now positioned itself as a theory that can tell fortunes, as well as can predict various human life events by coexistence, discordance, control and transition conformed to Yinyangwuhang(陰陽五行) derived of eight Chinese characters composed of the Pinyin(天干) and the Dizhi(地支).
Saju(四柱) is the study of the Five Elements' coexistence, discordance, control, transition and the changes of Wuhang(五行) with one's converted data of the date and hour of birth to Ten Heavenly Stems and Twelve Earthly Branches. It is the law of nature that If the earth was affected by the universe, human, too was affected by it. Therefore, the eight Chinese characters which constitutes the 'Saju(四柱)' derived of sexagenary cycle can show one's personality.
As many studies have proved, study of Mingli(命理) does not need any inspection sheet but the 'Saju(四柱)' itself, because Saju Mingli(四柱命理) sees the eight Chinese characters which constitutes the 'Saju(四柱)' contains one's personality.
In the western culture, studying personality is one of the major research subjects, so there are various personality theories and researches. In this paper, the personalities will be compared by Holland's personality types and the Saju(四柱).
The Saju(四柱) was interpreted by Yinyangwuhang(陰陽五行), as well as the Shi-Gan(十干) and Shi-Shen(十神) - components of the Saju(四柱) - and for Holland personality types, the samples were randomly selected among the middle school 9th graders in J and K cities of Jeonbuk-do. The two representative personality types of the subjects were compared by Saju(四柱) and Holland's personality types.
After the comparison of the correlations between Saju(四柱) and Holland's personality types, I draw a significant correlation between the two. The subjects were the 9th graders, and they are undergoing sudden changes in the process of the human growth in both mental and physical. Therefore the teenagers do not have confidence in who they really are and may experience confusion of identity. They often confused to have various options in front of them. If teenagers can understand their personality and aptitude, they may can make appropriate choices. Saju(四柱) can provide various interpretation of one's personality according to the harmony that many elements of Saju(四柱) such as coexistence, discordance, control and transition of Yinyangwuhang(陰陽五行) and fortune make.
In the paper, Yinyangwuhang(陰陽五行), Shi-Gan(十干) and Shi-Shen(十神) were used to interpret personality. If more components of Saju were taken into consideration, more detailed and accurate personality analysis may be possible. Saju(四柱), the Oriental way of study, must be used in profiling personalities and making career path choices along with personality type test(the Western way of study). Moreover, more studies of Saju must be followed for various and accurate analysis.
